So should I get the SAME sofa ? As I mentioned, we want a 3rd sofa for practical reasons, not aesthetics.

And yes, "Houssaon", those are the fabric samples for the colors I was thinking of. They are some of the colors in the pillows.

So just stick with the SAME sofa, COLOR & DESIGN ?

And I LOVE the room in the second picture you added.

The gray painted walls really make the architectural details "pops", don't they?

And adding that dark gray table didn't make the room look too "heavy" at all did it?...

I'll be adding a new beige area rug with touches of,gray,brown,black to "lighten" up the space a bit.

I can't put another sofa by the 2 other sofas because of a stupid "post" that is in the way. That is why we have to out a sofa on the "pony wall". There really is plenty of room for another sofa and a couple of chairs in that area. That is what got me thinking "separate" area with a different sofa.

make that other area a sofa and two chairs, have it be a separate seating area. different color than the couches. and the two chairs should match and the couch should be different. all should coordinate with your existing sofa. but try something lighter than the gray sofas, keeping in mind the sofa and new rug colors.

If the new sofa is not going to be connected to the other sofas (conversationally close enough), then I think it needs to be it's own area. And have each area anchored by coordinating rugs. Can the new section be "lighter"- both in color and weight of furniture? Furniture with legs and more airy feel? Do you need a huge sofa or something with a pull-out full size bed would be ok? Maybe even a leather sofa that blends with your walls and have pillows that coordinate with the other sofa/pillows (or coordinating fabric for seat portion of small simple chairs that can flank the new sofa).

So 2 votes for a new sofa (lighter w/2 chairs is what I was originally thinking and seems to be the consensus.)

And yes, @gargigg, that area is not "conversationally close enough" to the other sofas, (unless people were shouting.)

The 2 gray sofas will look less "crowded" after the current sofa tables behind them are replaced with more narrow, glass tables.

My main concern with putting a different sofa on the "pony wall" is that it will look "random", like "we had an extra sofa, so we put it here".

Thoughts?

Does your current sofa style come in a smaller length (sleeper)? I think anything on the pony wall will look somewhat disconnected unless you move the 2 bigger sofas further down and really have 2 small footprint chairs facing the new sofa with a small coffee table.

Yes, I can get the same sofa in a smaller size, I had those other 2 gray sofas custom made to be extra long to seat 4 people on each sofa instead of 3 (or 2). I wanted more seating in that area, but I couldn't put a U shaped sectional or 3rd smaller sofa there because of the post.

After I decide on the other, new sofa and chairs, I'll put 2 chairs next to the 2 gray sofas. So there will be seating for 10 in that area, and then 3 on the new sofa, with 2 new chairs for a total of 15 places for people to seat in that room (so hopefully people will stop dragging chairs to that room (which is the main place the adults gather in the house.) On the other side of the pony wall, there will be a "live edge" dining table with 6 chairs, then 6 bar stools for the kitchen island. That adds another 12 seats for a total of 29 seats.

So everything is sort of "planned", I'm just stuck on this 3rd sofa issue. Matching or no ?

But yes, I can order the same style/fabric in a new, smaller size sofa.

And yes, I was thinking a smaller, matching sofa, 2 "light/airy" chairs, (something with thinner legs, etc.) and a small coffee table. Then add a coordinating rug to match/compliment the new larger area rug (that I'm in the process of looking for now.)

Also, if I get the same sofa in a smaller size, do I get the same pillows? (Each sofa comes with 2 pillows of choice {and the "choices" aren't great.}.)

i don't think it will look at all odd to have a separate seating area, and do not think it needs to match-- just coordinate. I would suggest against doing another matching couch, it will look more interesting if it is different/ separate. Leather is a great idea, but any fabric could work, though it should be a deep color so the room doesn't seem heavier on the fireplace side. you could also use patterned chairs and have extra pillows made for the existing couches, if you want to tie it in. another option is to have a conversation area with four matching arm chairs facing a coffee table, either in the new area, or in front of fireplace, and move the existing couches back into room toward pony wall. there are lots of examples of this look in Houzz photos.

There is no way that 15 people are going to sit comfortably on those sofas and chairs unless it is for a meeting with an agenda. People want to feel free to move around. Get up. Sit down. Talk to this person then that.

There is seating for 8 on the 2 sofas. The sofas are 128 inches long, plenty of room.

Two more people with the 2 added chairs next to the 2 sofas. 3 more on the new sofa (depending on what size I depend on.) Then 2 more chairs in the new sofa area. That's 15, @Houssan.

And of course, people are free to move about. But when something (like a "big game") is happening, yes, butts will stay in the seats (when they're not jumping up to cheer :-) We've had no issues with people not wanting to sit next to one another and/or bring uncomfortable thus far.

But I think I'm getting off topic.

I just need to decide on same sofa or different sofa at this point.

Thinking of this rug to tie in the charcoal sofas and brown from the wood floor.
