best quality landline connections in usa for lowest cost?
Comments (5)For quite a few years (before having a cell phone) I used ECG for LD and was very happy with their product. There is no monthly minimum, contract, or hidden fee. I didn't have reason to make a lot of LD calls then, and many months my bill was -0- or some ridiculous amount like 53 cents. Your local phone company will charge you a one time switching fee. I think mine was about $5.00 After having signed up, I wondered what "surprise" fees or "conditions" I had overlooked in the fine print - happily there were absolutely none. It was easy to discontinue the service with one phone call (and the person taking the call was pleasant, too). I have no connection to ECG other than having been a very satisfied past customer. Here is a link that might be useful: ECG...See MoreShould we remove the telephone jack in the kitchen?
Comments (40)misntroya:I love the look, the clickity click of the dial, the heft of the handset, the sound of the ring." I'm with you. LOVE PHONES TOO ! I bought a Western Electric rotary and moved the jack around the corner to be placed on a small hallway shelf(well not a big hallway just a bit of wall perpendicular to the sofa). I do not have a mobile here since my non local calls are international. I keep a touchtone for calling card calls overseas. I find conversations are rushed at best and tinny sounding/echoing on mobiles. They are handy, though for real long heart wrenching conversations I want my rotary/touchtone landline because the conversation is richer sounding. My GF has a cordless which stops in mid conversation due to charging issues. Do you rewire them yourself or have someone hardwire them ? I would love to hook up a princess. I kept all jacks and would never be without a "land" line(stupid expression, sounds like the opposite of "boat" line) wherever I move.. but I also have a Toastmaster toaster and waffle iron and a wooden ironing board. I keep it simple....See MoreDo you have a landline?
Comments (71)Where does this battery go, in the phone base? I didn't notice anything about a battery in the phone set up material and the Uverse installer never mentioned it. I had a princess phone (that just plugs into the jack) but it didn't get a dial tone when I tried it during the first power outage after the uverse was installed so I trashed it, maybe that phone just died but I thought it was because of the new set up. I did notice on the bill that we pay quite a bit more for this phone service than we did the previous type (about a third more), next year when I have to 'renegotiate' the uverse plan I'll ask about cutting that part back to the old version and see if it's possible. Then I can find an old-style phone that fits my face. lol...See MoreHow does someone get wifi if no landline?
Comments (35)I'm happy - I don't Skype either, so also not 'data limit' smart. I was told Skype was free. but that's their access, sounds like the data minutes $s is due to the data svc provider. It's all confusing to me. my nephew is over visiting my sister - and she'll be leaving next week for 5 days in HI, so he's going to come over and do some things for me (she says). I have lots to be done here since Jed's been so busy this past yr with family problems and work. hoping he'll be able to set up a router for me, put my new tv on the wall, hook up the dvd his mother gave me, kill a bunch of weeds and lots of other things that need done. hopefully, I'll learn a lot from him about data minutes, skyping etc. my town was 3200 in 2000 - no library. we got one maybe 8-10 yrs ago with pop of around 20,000. pop now is about 34,000. maybe it depends on the anticipated growth for the town. ours knew in 2000 that it was booming. writersblock - I don't mind the 'ears' if it saves me $s. would rather have the more current technology tho. I didn't think I had much to use the wifi for but as I started counting things up, I'm up to about 5 things to use it. add another if I decide to get roku later this year. another if I break down and buy an echo (tho I have serious doubts on that now since THEY can evidently hear into my house with it). add in a wifi speaker or 2... and I'll be over run with this stuff! i'll pull up the new Staples ad and see what they have and how much....See Moresushipup1
