Suckers in tree roses?

Sylvia Wendel

A post today about suckers started me thinking, and I remembered that my Peace rose tree, the tall kind, had two red stalks coming up out of the dirt a week ago. I figured they were rootstock and destroyed them promptly. Can a tree rose sucker?Do they ever?

my Marilyn Monroe was an infamous sucker machine, didn’t hurt the bush as a whole, however.

I’ve already had one run-in with the good doctor this spring — he came swelling up from below the join on Sexy Rexy. That doesn’t sound very ... tasteful, does it? Anyway, he was all set to pop little red blooms when I caught on and demolished him. This is what I thought was going on around the Peace tree.

???

And why would the rootstock rear up on a perfectly healthy rose, I.e. SR?

the world wonders. At least I do,

thanks,

Sylvia
