Deck-orated OR My Deck is (almost) Finished
Comments (23)thanks again. Today was nice out and we did get a chance to sit out there without freezing. Then my dh had to get to the airport so the sun worshipping ended. lyban, we bought that firetable from Lowe's. The patio store sells them too, however they sell theirs for over $2k and there was no way I could ever justify that. This was around $300 or so. We took the lava rocks out and replaced with the fire glass. It looks soooo much better. Has a nice sparkle to it when it's lit. The lava rocks were just dead darkness. We ordered the fireglass from Amazon after picking out the colors in person at the patio store....again, they wanted $15/lb. We bought for around $5/lb. Big difference considering we bought 30lbs of it. b's mom--oh, a g&t would be lovely. What time will you get here? And yes, the deck is large. (I actually wanted it to go out further but you just gotta stop spending somewhere, right? It's 34' long. tinan, yes, I'm already thinking about the candles and melting issue....probably have to go with battery candles. I just love the blue though. Here is a link that might be useful: some of the fire glass on Amazon...See MoreIPE Information 6 Aug 09
Comments (10)Salmon: Thanks for your great work in compiling this. This link shows how to create a link within a document. A few things I'll add: 1. Another "where to buy" place is ABS Wood. I worked with Jeff at East Teak. 2. The decks.com guide is good. American Wood Products also publishes a good code reference. 3. I bought several deck books, and the most useful (starts with the basics, lots of photos) is Black & Decker's. It's updated for recent code changes. 4. I sketched out my plans and used decks.com's $99 plan drawing service. They did the load calcs, produced a framing plan, footer plan, and materials list in 24 hours. A great time saver! 5. Tools: I love the Bostich metal connector nailer, and have the Paslode framer and finish nailers (love them too, even if the framer took a nip out of my finger). I buy all my expensive power tools on ebay, and prices are generally 30-50% off retail for tools in good condition. If you're only using them for one project, you can put them back on ebay and probably recover most of your expense....See MoreDeck wash + Deckorator Balusters = ????
Comments (2)It depends on what wash you use. A deck wash like oxalic is not a cleaner its a brightner. It can be put on with a brush/scrubing that will clean things off but by its self it wont clean anything off any more than water will. Whatever wash you decide on try a test area first. Comments (2)We don't install it as much as we do Trex, but the Deckorators decks we've installed have all been fine. No problems after 3 years on the first one we used Vault deck boards on, it still looks new. We haven't had to contact Deckorators about any deck warranty issues so we can't speak to that, but haven't had any problems with them on warranty claims about their deck railing. We seem to be selling more of it at thedeckstore.com so more people are hearing about it. That said, we still prefer Trex though....See MoreHU-248906324
