Comments (8)A lot of these are the same as suggestions above 1) Maianthemum canadense, Canada Mayflower, probably. 2) Wild Lettuce, maybe 3) Cut Leaved Toothwort, Cardamine concatenata 4) Jewelweed seedlings, Impatiens capensis or pallida 5) Lonicera something, some vining honeysuckle 6) Maybe Teasel 7) Veronica spp 8) Chickweed, maybe Stellaria graminea 9) ?Wild Cucumber Vine? 10)? Waterleaf, Hydrophyllum, need to see the leaves Vicia cracca, Cow Vetch, or something similar. Geranium maculatum, Wild Geranium Buttercups, Ranunculus spp The leaf and flower aren't from the same plant. The leaf is some kind of Potentilla, I think, and the flower is a Hawkweed, probably King Devil, Hieraciujm caespitosum because of the black hairs. Another Geranium, maybe? Wild blue Phlox, Phlox divaricata A sedge, maybe Carex intumescens WW...See MoreID of Acaena sp.
Comments (5)Thanks everyone for the information. I realized it looked "similar" to the Leptinella, but just assumed the arboretum got it right.. I grew the 'Platt's Black' cultivar about a year ago. It didn't live very long, so I didn't have the plant to compare it to. Of, course even the best Arboretums make mistakes. I believe plant propagation for sales is done almost entirely by volunteers. Most of what they sell is propagated from the Arboretum's own plants, but I have bought plants that appear to have been donated by wholesale nurseries. Some of the plants do come from volunteers and others. And of course tags get lost. It was a $3 plant, so it will be an inexpensive way for me to try again with this species. Comments (5)There can be Purslane, Chickweed, prostrate spurge, Black Medic, and some others that grow like that that most people consider "weeds", but like any other plant they do have their place in our world, just not in my yard. Whether your neighbors would appreciate you allowing these plants to grow in your yard depends on how anal they are about their yards. Many places are putting in place ordinances that state they you cannot have any vegetative growth in excess of 8 inches, but do not address these types of "weeds"....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
