I have Lady in Red, in it's 2nd year. Terrific rose plant that is still trying to be a thick rose bush but not there. I have no idea about the other rose you mentioned.

Does the color fade? NO. What sort of 'red' do you get? Beautiful luscious red.

How's disease resistance where you are? Very disease resistant but it has the occasional bout with some disease.

Height and winter hardiness? 6'-7' in the 1st year. Looks like it wants to fill in so far this year.

Uses - are these freestanding, fanned on a trellis, or obelisk/pillar roses? Mine is free standing but it will need a trellis or something to help it grow.

Scent? Zero/nada/zilch/none Flower shape/petal count - 'Florentina' is more petal-packed, according to HMF, and looks more cupped/quartered; is that what you've seen? No idea on the count, but it's a lot.

Thorns? Heck yes.

Shade tolerance? No idea. Mine gets mid morning to late afternoon sun. More water-loving or drought-tolerant than usual? It's never complained about being over water and never shown signs of sufferage in drought.

Are your plants own root or grafted? Mine came from Spring Hill. Not exactly sure but I'll guess own root. Do you think it would perform better/differently grafted? No idea.

I only grow Florentina. I am veeeery particular about reds. Mine is a deep true red, more cool than warm with no brassiness and no fading. The blooms are cupped and petal packed. No disease in this dry climate (once the spring rains stop). Mine is on a 4 1/2' picket fence that she started draping herself over by the end of her first season, last year. Nice fragrance, but not strong here. Mine is own root from Northland. She started blooming her first year and was never without a bloom until fall. Blooms in clusters. One cluster is a bouquet. She gets the same amount of water as my other roses (except for the Austins, which require more). I don't remember anything noteworthy about thorns. I don't know about shade tolerance. As for winter dieback, I'm sure there's some. The only roses I don't get any winter kill on are the Canadians. I think it's a great rose. I'm glad I have it. I believe Lilyfinch, who was in z7, had it and wasn't quite as enthusiastic about hers.

My Florentina is great here. It is grafted on multiflora from Palatine. The flowers are beautiful and abundant. The plant gracefully arches here and I don't support it. The foliage is so perfect it is like holly.

I agree with Sheila and flowersaremusic. I have three Florentinas. Not to be negative as this climber is a fav, but it makes growth like a fan and when it flowers, the weight of the big blooms will make it bend over. There are two ways to grow it because of this type of growth. One grow it against a fence and tie it. The other, hard pruning every spring to make it into a nice, thick sturdy bush with loads of roses on it.

Oldrosarian, are yours grafted or ownroot? I've seen some pics of pillared/obelisk'd Florentinas, and given what other Kordes can be like when grafted it makes me wonder if that's the difference.

oldrosarian, that was such a funny comment about Houzz. So very, very true and right on.

I got mine from Palatine Roses and they are on multiflora. Florentine's flowers are large and filled with many petals all tightly curled up. I have three Florentines. One is on a fence, no bending, the other stands alone, it is now halfway to the ground ( yes I will tie it up) and the other is tied to an archway. I wish Florentina was on own root. It would be a stronger rose and so not lean over.

My 'Florentina' is ownroot from ARE, so it came a big two-gallon. I haven't seen any blooms on it, and it lives up to the Kordes rep as thorn-monsters. It came through our polar vortex here with minimal tip damage, and the canes she has from last year seem flexible enough I could put her on an obelisk. I figured I couldn't do that, so planted her where I could run wires between obelisks and fan it out that way. Now I need to make up my mind because she's leafing out!

@DVS inFL and @mmm12 how would you describe 'Lady in Red's flowers - cupped like a peony or a flatter rosettes?

Everybody with Florentina, is that the sort of red she is for you? Or is she more blue-toned per @flowersaremusic z5 description?

Ac, my Florentina is darker than LiR in the photo in the link above. Florentina's color is similar to Rouge Royale in my garden. More cool than warm is an accurate description of mine, without it being blue toned. William Shakespeare 2000, to me, is more of a blue toned red. At least, in my garden. Soil, amendments and climate can all affect the color.

Dark crimson type red for Florentina.

Obelisk, an ideal climber , easily trained, flowers to the ground , exceptional repeat.

Very slight fragrance, fluffy blooms, 40-50 petals.

Large though well spaced.

I must say this rose has the most ideal growth and flower power by far of any climber I’ve ever grown. By that I mean not only is it vigorous , it always wants to bloom. It flowers from bottom to top. As one flush is still in full bloom, the next set of laterals is already well on its way to forming buds. Unlike many other climbers, everything it puts out ends in bloom, and it blooms all the time!

From the camera. I took a number of shots, with varying amounts of sun. I think the sun caused that at just that particular angle.

After BenT's report above, I am very excited to get this put in. Still working on a location.

I will try to post pics in a sec as I grow both. Florentina in a sub-optimal spot as she only bloomed once last year and LiR is still in a pot. However, I have seen an older specimen of Fl. imported before it was generally available. HUGE BUSHY growth. It probably needs an armature to get going, but nothing after that. It needs sun and has an astounding number of huge gorgeous cooler blue red cupped flowers. It's a gorgeous colour that can blend with other roses. CoriAnn had the best pics of it that showed its true colour and form. I'll try to link to them. Very light fragrance. Thorny.

Lady in Red gave me two flushes in a pot in afternoon sun. I don't remember fragrance. Thorny with a more modern shape to the flower. It's very pretty and blooms in clusters, however as mentioned above it's probably best grown on its own as a specimen climber as it overwhelms anything else... a complete magnet. It is a warmer red also, but definitely not orange-red. I think it's a great addition, but am struggling to place it.

That 'Comparing' thread is full of great reds - you have to scroll a ways to find Cori's 'Florentina', but it's worth it. I'm going to show mine the pics in Cori's 'Florentina' thread to inspire it to bloom this year.

There's a pic in that thread (the one just titled 'Florentina' from Cori) from someone in z6 and the color looks pretty close to Cori's (isn't she z9?).

I just wanted to mention re: DVS comments that the Springhill plant of LinR was probably own-root. I got mine from Springhill during the 2018 Rainbow of Roses sale and they were all grafted on Dr. Huey.

I'm holding out for own-roots or multiflora if possible; one battle with Huey was enough for me!
