debrak: I went to a custom picture frame store and picked out picture frame wood that closely matched my cabinetry. They built the mirror frames according to the size specifications I provided. I took them home and my tile guy did the tile work with the same glass tiles we used as an accent in the shower. Yes, there are tiles on all sides of the mirrors. The only wood you see is a little bit on the front inside edges, but it looks fine because the wood I chose matches my cabinets. The glass tiles came on a mesh type of backing, with space in-between for grout, that can be cut to size. We have two rows of tiles on the front as you can see, and two rows that wrap around the edges. Had the mirror frame been wider, we would have used more tiles--three or four rows. With this frame, however, two rows of tiles fit perfectly. After the tiling was finished, we brought the mirrors back to the frame store, they installed the glass for us, attached a heavy duty wire for hanging, and provided us with hardware (heavy duty picture hooks). I am going to post some more pictures of the mirrors for you to see. I'll take some close-ups of the sides and front so you can see more detail. I'm not home right now and probably won't get to it tonight, but I will try to do it in the next day or two....by the end of the week at the latest. Don't give up on me, I promise I won't forget!

We got our backsplash tile at Walker Zanger in Mount Vernon. (They have a store in the city, but the service was atrocious there, as opposed to Mount Vernon, where it was excellent). We picked the backsplash before we picked the cabinets. Since I wanted 2 color painted cabinets, I thought it would be easier to find the tile I liked first and then get the exact shades of cabinet I wanted based on the tile. But for our bath I did the opposite and brought in samples of the vanity wood and flooring, and we chose our vanity backsplash tile from there. So I think it could work fine either way. Anyway, the people at Walker Zanger were really helpful and showed me a lot of good options that I wouldn't otherwise have considered.

WOW - your kitchen is really pretty! That's so amazing that he was able to take regular cabinets and make them extend to the ceiling! Even with the second picture showing it in progress, I am still confused how he really did it, but it doesn't matter. I like the island top, too. I just realized I could incorporate one feature you have - there is a great towel bar on the end of your island. I won't have an island, but I do have a base end cabinet near the cooktop on my sink run that would be a great spot for a towel bar. Thank you for the idea!

Thank you all for the feedback! Blue - thanks for the different perspective on kitchen vs. bath ;) Sometimes, I think we just need to hear other people state the obvious to get us back to reality. Rosalita - you're right about loving them now and in the future. I don't think I have ever regretted buying something that I really wanted the first time I saw it. (Doesn't happen too often). Jowbo - I feel much better now because mine are not that much! The initial quote I got ended up being $80/ft. but that was for smaller tiles so I'm hoping larger tiles may be less. This was also a few months ago and I believe the company has expanded to other stores in my area so I'm hoping I can get it cheaper. They are fairly local to me (I am in socal) so I'm thinking that probably makes a difference between my price and the price you got. Don't get me wrong - $80/ft. is outrageous, but my husband figured out we would only need about 10-11 ft or less if we just used them as accents. We DIYd everything ourselves (soapstone included) and I lucked out on Mother's Day last year and won a slightly dented Thermador refrigerator for almost half-off on E-bay so the tile would definitely be our "splurge" item.
