I am so very thankful for finding this forum
Comments (16)I opted for a growing table rather than a Buffet/China Cabinet in the dining room and didn't grow anything inside this year because of the money spent on lighting up every day. I joined GW just 3 weeks ago and found all you junkies-now I can't wait for the kids to drink the gallons of milk I buy so that I can fill them with dirt and seeds!! (I get to fill about 4 containers a week!) Thanks for all your knowledge and great threads-you may be junkies but are special junkies to me!! BTW, I'm not giving up on the "buffet" just yet-I will probably do both next year!!! I do have a newbie question-- when I put the top layer of dirt over the seeds per the instructions in the FAQ's, do I water that top layer? If so, wont that water disturb the seeds underneath (push the seeds further down into the container? Should I use a spray bottle for the top layer? thanks, Susie...See MoreAm I in the wrong Forum?
Comments (3)Hi We did well just selling out of the back of our pickup truck. We just parked it at the end of the driveway and stuck an umbrella up over the tailgate and pilled up the melons and corn. The stand was operational from noon until 6pm. We made a few hundred dollars during the summer....See MoreHello, I am new to this forum...

Comments (15)Further on copper: don't use copper decorations (for example, I have a small copper frog) in aquariums. Use rocks like petrified wood, jasper, quartz instead, but nothing rough so fish don't run into them by mistake. Rosie, your pictures show very happy plants in a location they obviously enjoy. I over winter my more delicate plants inside, which they don't appreciate but they'd freeze otherwise; they go out as soon as the nights are around 50F. I can put them in strong southwest afternoon sun (~3 hours) or a bright north-facing porch. Tillandsias go on the porch, though a few might like the sun. Other tenants might try to take them home though... Your regular plants look so happy that I wonder if you could place some tillandsias among them. They could chat. I have a lot of smaller tillies in shallow, decorative bowls, often with rocks or wood chips in the bowls, and like you I'll add water to promote humidity. Most of the plants seem to like it (or not dislike it). Note that generally our humidity is very low (5% in the high summer). Lately, with Monsoon Season creeping in, humidity is rising (currently 55%, ugh! but it's 73F at 9am, not bad); humidity is okay if it rains but it hasn't rained very much and we're not used to sweating! So I suggest as a trial placing some of your plants, maybe the greener ones (as opposed to the fuzzy white ones) among your happy porch plants, in bowls or shells or the like, to see if and how they respond. If the porch gets rain, the tillies may like it, but empty out any rainwater that accumulates in tilly holders. For the tillandsias that like it dry, I see you have some cactus and succulents, so the dry tillandsias might like chatting with those plants and being treated in a similar fashion (though no one soaks cacti or succulents in buckets of water). It helps when we can discover where plants were from originally (nowadays many plants for sale were seed grown or were offsets; little importation is allowed now). So plants (like ionantha, caput medusa, etc.) from southern Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Gulf of Mexico area would like more humidity, but plants from northern Mexico (far from Gulf), the mountains of Bolivia (Tectorum), Peru, etc. like it drier. Good thing for the internet, it helps us do research on this!...See MoreSharon Perkins
