I can't speak to the quality of the individual appliances you're considering, but I will mention that, if you care about how you spend your money and what your money says about you, there are better choices than GE. GE just recently "decided" to keep its appliance division after years of shopping it around (no takers). I've been around long enough to know that no one makes big investments in something they plan/hope to sell. Maybe GE broke that rule, but based on what else I've learned about them, I have my doubts. GE has a documented history of being a bit -- um, disrespectful -- to customers and employees. In the mid-80s GE sold a series of refrigerators on which the compressors failed prematurely; GE did not step up to the plate to address the issue. Many customers with GE dishwashers dating back even just ten years or so found that, if the DWs started leaking, the most likely culprit was a small part that could only be replaced as part of a larger $250 assembly. GE also had/has a corporate staffing policy in which 10-20% of their employees were to be appraised annually as barely capable of doing their jobs and, with that rating, were encouraged to leave the company. I work at a company that was run by a GE alumnus and that rule lasted about a year before it was abandoned. GE's behavior, sadly, is not atypical. I'm sure there are other companies that do some of those things and I'm sure Whirlpool has made its share of questionable decisions. But I decided I didn't want to reward with my money any company that does that.

I have a new Frigidaire SXS and it is pretty quiet. The comp and all of that is built in under the bottom though so I think that helps. Recently I was at a friends mothers house helping move something and she had gotten a new Frigidaire fridge and she had the top freezer model. Her was kinda small cause her space is also limited and I did notice that hers was very loud compared to mine. I figure it just didn't have the enclosed compressor?? I think either of what you are looking at will be quiet. You might get a Whirlpool for less money since they are same as KA. All I really hear on mine is the ice maker and the sound like a fan blowing. The one I heard that was loud was almost like a vibration (rythmic) noise. Put this one in the garage and get one you can live with.

LG has a 24" fridge in the NYC market; I'll guess that an LG dealer can order one for you. Fagor has a 24" fridge. Blomberg has three of them. GE has a 24" fridge. Liebherr and Miele also. A Danish company also: its fridges are imported by several other companies and rebranded. My son has a 24 inch Liebherr in his apartment and has been having the problems that have been documented elsewhere in this forum -- icemaker not working, ice on the back wall. Has had several service calls and it is not fixed. He's renting and the owner has now said he can buy a new unit rather than risk more fruitless service calls. So, he is looking at choices--- the Summit looks good -- two compressors -- but doesn't have the ice maker which he wants. Any thoughts on what to get? Have read good and bad about LG, the owner is encouraging GE, but the Summit seems like the best unit except for not having the icemaker. Budget is about $1400.
