msrose: Yes, I did see that on Rate My Space show and I thought the same thing as you! It looked great to not have everything so matchy...something I'm slowly learning! Also in my situation it would make practical since to have 4 upholstered parsons chairs & only 2 black wood chairs. Our dining room is connected to our small living room so we keep our table round with only 4 chairs, however when we have company (1-2 times a yr) we put the leaf in and need 6 chairs. Our kitchen has a breakfast nook that seats 2 so if we use black wood chairs in there then we can just pull those into the dining room when we expand the table & need 6 chairs. Otherwise if I were to buy 6 upholstered parsons chairs I would have to store away 2 of the chairs so that I could only use them 1-2 times a yr. The other way makes more sense for us. I'll show you what I end up with once I have the chairs all purchased.

I know how hard can be to choose something to have there. From what you describe, an abstract painting would go nice there, but here is another idea. Over my living room sofa, I have a big gold mirror (35x42) with two other small sunburst mirrors (12x12, and 9x9) it looks great, but I just had a custom made mirror-window, in wood and black ( 32x42) for my dining room, and I like it so much that I am thinking about switching it with the big mirror over my living room sofa. I think the mirror-window would look great in your space. I had seen it in stores, but not exactly as I wanted it, but you can find it online. I would also suggest if you are not really sure, get any type of mirror. canôt go wrong with a mirror!! Let me know what you think. Good luck!!

Not all that easy to see here.. but fabric sofa with 2 leatehr club chairs. The sofa is in it's last year and will ge replaced next year so the style of the sofa is a little to curvy for the chairs.. but life is like that hu?

Thanks for finding the picture, Vicki. Even though he was quite ill at the time, dad signed the first 300 prints of this painting. And that is exactly the way he did it. Ian painted over that plane a number of times before he got it right and Dad approved. The lettering on the plane, etc. are correct to the last detail. However, there was no car or woman. It's supposed to be Mom waving him goodbye as he flew off to war - very romanticized, hence the title of the piece - but that wasn't the way it was.
