Exterior Paint Dilemma - Colonial to Farmhouse?
Help Please! We have painters coming soon for the exterior of our home and I'm still trying to determine our color scheme. Our inspiration was a house in the neighborhood that always looks gorgeous no matter the light - and I love that it has a very "reflective" bright feel. I'm going for a farmhouse look and am looking at whites though their house is actually "Hint of Mint" BM. Not sure of their trim. (see pics). Our home is the red one (see other pics). Grey roof. After trying "hint of mint" and feeling that it looks too green, we are leaning to SW Alabaster for siding and maybe High Reflective White or Extra White for trim (based on a pro rec from another post), but are still up in the air with the shutters/doors. Trying to keep it southern elegant - leaning away form black shutters - want to do a kind of cream?? Any thoughts would be MUCH appreciated!!

Comments (24)My father's old family home was something like the old picture. I adored exploring all the rooms and hidden attic spaces in that old house, when I was a child. I visited it a few years ago, but did not go inside - don't think I'd want to see what has happened with renters for the past 45 years (the same couple, though). My cousin bought it out of our uncle's estate - a totally impractical, sentimental gesture. The house is in MO; he lives in TX and is now in his early 90's. It will be a huge burden his surviving child one day soon. Comments (42)@ Res, You can gut and re do a master bath in ten weeks well planned, a kitchen in 12. I've had a fabric on order for two chairs since SEPTEMBER. They'll be at my upholsterer another three after that, and that's with pretty please and sugar on top. Client is hanging in, and won't consider a change. Their rug, ordered in August and back ordered, was just finished, after finally arriving a week ago. A half decent custom sofa takes 12 to 14 weeks minimum. ....................so maybe just count your blessings. Comments (7)if you did metal roof over the porch, it would look great. change out the porch posts to something wider (either white or cedar), change out the porch spindles to something more modern. maybe paint the porch steps. paint the door. remove the shutters and either do black windows, OR do trim around the window and paint it black. get a diff garage door w/carriage hardware. Board and batten is an option. All of these pictures show the upgrades I've mentioned here's the metal roof just over the porch area w/the larger cedar posts. this one too. but white posts. farmhouse style lighting garage door, lights over the door, black windows this one is all white, but notice the black windows and black railing oh, and the garage doors all have the iron carriage hardware board/batten. black windows. wood arbor Black trim around the windows. white shingles. love this for the porch steps if you removed the lattice and replaced w/something like this, and painted the porch and steps a darker color, w/a color front door, you'd get this look...See MoreStay traditional colonial or modern farmhouse?
Comments (9)You're desperately trying to turn your house into a "modern farmhouse", hence the other post about the black windows. Do you live in a rural area on a farm, like Joanna Gaines? Too much HGTV - you have a lovely colonial - keep it that way. 5 years agoHere is an off-white combination that you might like. Blue for the shutters and brown for the front door.
