Well then we are entering the territory of the wild lettuce family. I don't think anyone mentioned a smell from the leaves, but a milk colored substance coming out of the stem when you break one (or not) would be a featu to look for to help narrow down what you might have. Wild lettuces are a large family of plants, so finding your particular weed might be tough, but look at some pictures of them or sow thistles (not quite the same as wild lettuce but similar). thank you Houston Texas, I think you're right. The 2nd post picture is the REAL Sango kaku based upon all my research and the 1st photo is not. I checked all the attributes of the 'Shindeshojo' and found that it is not in line with this JM. The Imposter Tree has a bright red bark, Spring and Summer shows Green leaves while fall is bright red leaves with bright red twigs. The Shindeshojo's leaves are red in spring. Although both have leaves of 5 lobes.Any other suggestions? -M Here is a link that might be useful:

I've done as much as I can to discourage them here, including removing their nests when they take over bird boxes - or we'd have no native birds in the neighborhood at all. We agreed as a neighborhood to not put out food other than nyger seed for finches and chickadees (the clinging type eaters) etc (sparrows can't eat from those feeders) and hummingbird feeders, that's helped enormously. There were so many sparrows for a couple of years we were honestly considering trapping the males but it didn't come to that - and now we have mosquito eating swallows back and nesting every year :) The plastic bird netting is inexpensive and easy to handle, you can roll it back up and use again next year if you have to. I'll second the votes for: Aunt Ginny's Puple (I just love the way this one tastes.) Brandywine OTV - I'm not sure if you'll find a better Red (not Pink) medium-sized, blemish free, PL mid-season tomato than this one. I sure haven't. Kimberly - I agree 100% with the description posted by korney. Those are the three I will grow almost every year. There are a few others I grow occasionally: Brandywine and Brandywine Yellow - Both taste fantastic. Seriously. But I don't grow them often because of the generally low number of outstanding tomatoes. Pruden's Purple - Super productive plant, and frequently gives me two pound fruit, but I like the taste of Aunt Ginny's Purple better. Lillian's Yellow Heirloom - Like Brandywine, the few fruit I harvest are seriously great, but it's just not that productive.
