Without a picture, I would hestitantly guess wild mustards, so maybe do an internet search to see if they are what you have. Cheers!

That's my guess too. A typical brassica flower would have four petals (the origin of the "crucifer" family - cross- bearer). There are many wild plants in the brassica family.

Okay, although I don't know how to post a picture, I will try to describe in more detail. I have looked at the pictures of wild greens and none of the blooms match exactly. The leaf looks exactly like the turnip green but the flower is on a stem above the plant 6 to 10 inches with clusters of buds on the one stem. the tight (and very small) buds are a deep yellow or orange and then the opened ones are a bright yellow with very small daisey like pedals,,with little tiny (barely seen)staymands(?) in center.Most are growing in shade of moist soil.Would love to know if they are edible. Thanks to all of you trying to help me identify this plant

You might want to pull one up and see what the root is like. Mustard and turnip would have different roots.

Sorry about the previous post; I'd opened this and then went to do something else, and didn't check for intervening posts before I posted my suggestion.

How many petals? How wide are the petals? How wide is the entire flower?

Is there a daisy-type center to the flower? How wide? What color? Do different flowers on the same plant have different color centers?

How many lobes are there to the leaves?

Most likely wild radish, it was blooming all around central fla a few weeks ago. I ate a bunch, makes a good cooking green. Moved some to my garden, in fact. Radish has the divided seed pods between seeds, mustard doesn't.

Well another thing that springs to mind is hawkweed, especially if the flower is more daisy-like or even dandelion-like. I was hoping that looking at pictures of wild mustard would answer, but if it isn't one of those, then some other questions arise. Are the leaves or stems hairy? Does it have a milky sap if you break a stem?

I'm changing my guess to hawkweed as well, since the wild mustard would not have a "daisy-like" flower, and hawkweed can have variable colored flowers... both yellow and orange.

Okay, I looked at the pictures of the hawkweed and even though the flowers look the same,but mine are much smaller(about the size of a small pea)and there is no fuzz at on on my plants and the green leaves grow right on the ground with a jagged edge which looks just like a turnip green leaf. I some how don't feel like this is hawkweed that I have. I can detect no odor at all from the leaves. Again, thank you all for your help.

Well then we are entering the territory of the wild lettuce family. I don't think anyone mentioned a smell from the leaves, but a milk colored substance coming out of the stem when you break one (or not) would be a featu to look for to help narrow down what you might have. Wild lettuces are a large family of plants, so finding your particular weed might be tough, but look at some pictures of them or sow thistles (not quite the same as wild lettuce but similar).

Well , I have researched the wild lettuce and that seems to be what I have here although there is no milky substance when I pinch the stems. I guess what I have is not edible, just a nusance. Thanks for all the help
