Update (couple of pix)
Comments (12)Lorna - that's good advice for sure. I was really worried about turning my garden over to someone else's hands, but I hired a great gal. She works in the grounds department at our campus. She's one of us. It's so funny you mentioned the ribbons on the dogs. The mutts are actually going to be our ring bearers. We're tying the rings to ribbons around their necks and they'll be walked down the aisle by a dear friend. Maggie will by fine, but we may have to sedate Chuck. He's a leaper. I'm glad you all like the music. I've always loved this piece. And yes, party music, it is amazing on guitar too. I'll keep my options open for sure. I found someone on Craiglists to play it on cello, but she's a bit pricey. Do you guys agree that $350 for 3 minutes of music is a bit much? I followed Patti's suggestion and called some local colleges, Sonoma State and UC Berkeley. I'm hoping they call back tomorrow, otherwise I'll just grimace and write the $350 check. Annette, is your anniversary 8 days before or 8 days after the 23rd? That is just beautiful that you two have been together for 52 years. If all goes as planned, we'll be able to say the same thing one day. Thanks again for all the well-wishes you guys! Steven...See MoreLori's Wedding Photos here!
Comments (36)As you know I have very strong feelings of affection for you... friendly type feeling that is. I miss our e-mail swaps! Feel free to drop me a chat mail anytime. I'm delighted to see you found someone special... he looks like a great guy. I regretted that we live so far apart as I would have loved to have met you when you were single. Hope life brings you and your family the comfort and security you all deserve. I was in particular touched that Bob's family still considers you one of them!... good family is forever. love you much!... take care of yourself first so you have the strength to keep up with that large group. : ) lyra...See MoreVERY Small Wedding
Comments (39)I thought I'd give an update. We chose the "conference" room at the house. The one thing that's great about it is that there is a working fireplace which dd is very happy about. The cost for the place which includes a stereo system and a professional kitchen will be about $150.00, depending on the time it takes to put up the decorations and how long we stay there. I picked the flowers and there will be arrangements on either side of the fireplace. The arrangements will be in glass vases inside horn-looking wicker containers. I asked that extra ribbons, etc. be used to hide part of the front of the wicker. DD will have a red rose bouquet, the flower girl will have a wrist corsage and the other women at the wedding will each have one red rose. The men, of course, will have their flowers as well. The cost for the flowers is $300.00 which I think is reasonable. I ordered the wedding cake from our local IGA. We didn't want fondant and the bakery has a lady who specializes in wedding cakes and only uses buttercream. There will be a 10" cake on the bottom and a 6" cake sitting on top of the bottom layer. Each layer of white cake will have a layer of icing inside as well. The cake will be decorated with white roses, edible shimmer and a very pale blue icing will also be used within the flowers to better show off the white flowers. The cake should feed 35 people and it cost only $55.50. They figure their cost at $1.35 per person. I have spoken to several caterers and picked one that has been recommended to me but we have yet to decide on the menu. We are leaning towards herbed chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetable dish, pasta dish (I think), a Caesar salad and bread. I will hire a person to do the serving of the meal and desserts through the caterer for a cost of $135.00. Besides the wedding cake, we will be serving other desserts. I am debating about making some of the family favorites because the kids haven't had them in years (at least made at home). The caterer will supply the dishes and cutlery. Glasses and wine glasses are already at the wedding place for my use. I will need to rent the linens from the caterer. The only problem I see at the moment is that there are 8 wooden chairs and the rest will be bridge chairs. Besides renting chair covers, does anyone have any thoughts on how to hide the chair backs?...See MoreMore tentative wedding tidbits
Comments (16)I would not have gone for favors either, but it was SO's idea. He has had such little input on the wedding (mostly due to him just taking the path of least resistance and going along) so I wanted to honor his idea. AND, we are trying to go "no plastic" so I was going to have to get glass champagne flutes anyway . . . I figure I will get them and folks can either take them or I will take what is left over, won't be that many. Another thought I just had was beeswax votive candles, in keeping with the "light" theme. I could put a sticker on the bottom with our names and folks could take them home. I actually have a friend who is a beekeeper and makes and sells the candles and has done programs on beekeeping with some of my other friends in attendance. So we have a long standing relationship that would be nurtured by the votives. I can take the votive candles home too, and use what is left over. Could do both candle and flute, not that much. I looked into it and the flutes are only about 1.50 each. I love champagne and I want to at least pretend at my wedding. Also can use a lot of votive candle holders I have at home as table decorations. If some get lost along the way, no great loss. Just locked in the East Coast date, Sept. 29!! One of my good, good friends will be marrying us. My matron and man of honor/best man are coming for a visit tomorrow and we are going to eat, drink and plot!!...See MoreUser
