Epoxy resin countertops (lab countertops)
Comments (21)I definitely don't want wood, but thanks for the suggestion. I'm a little bummed tonight because I went to buy a sample of the tile backplash I liked, but the shade of the current batch has more beige brown in it and I liked the charcoal greys that were more prominent. I was too delayed in buying it! Anyway, I did some looking and decided that Corian is not an option in a darker color. Didn't like it. Can't use laminate because of the undermount sink. Lab counters don't sound like a great fit. I think they might be too dark also. Here's my options I think: 1)Honed Granite: if I want to risk the staining issues. No scratching or heat worries right? Perfect color choice. 2)Quartz: risk of chemical stains, risk of heat damage from griddles, slow cookers. No scratches, perfect color choice. 3)Stainless: No staining, heat damage, and scratches only add to the look. Not a perfect color choice. 4)Soapstone: Great color, not staining, no heat damage. Chips easily? It would appear that stainless is a great option for the durability but I really want a tile backsplash. I liked the look of marble mosaic because the pattern was small and from a distance, it would look uniform. I want to look somewhat industrial but not 100%. My floor tile looks like a rusty metal. In the daylight, depending on the angle, it is very reflective, like an old mirror. Without daylight, it has the copper/bronze color more. It is the most awesome tile!! But, I want some warmth. I will have tongue and groove ceiling painted to match the cabs. So would stainless counters be too much metallic? Would they work with a darker tile backsplash. I also like a 1x2 multicolor slate backsplash or something like these: http://www.missionstonetile.com/products/17-Tabarka/tabarka-med-10 Here's my faucet and sink too: How do these compare to each other in price. I have no idea. We supposedly are able to get less expensive AB granite here because it is quarried locally....See MoreHas anyone tried this for a backsplash?
Comments (11)Thanks everyone. I need to look at the sample we have where I work. I thought what we have on display is actually a metal. The reason I thought about using something like this is to brighten the counter area, because when we had our tile floor installed, deep red, brown brick with black grout, I also wanted it put on the wall for the backsplash. Now I feel I chose wrong because the counter area is very dark, even with undercounter lighting, although I do like the brick behind the range. We do not want to have it removed, and I don't want to paint it because I would not like painted bricks and the b &r bricks on the floor. The counter tops will be the HD laminate from Wilsonart in Crystalline Onyx. We are refacing our cabinets and they will be white in color with slab doors with grooves, and satin nickel cup pulls on the drawers and SN round knobs on the doors. I ordered a SS sink also. The appliances are white. Thanks again. Jane...See MoreEpoxy Grout over top of Urethane Grout:
Comments (19)Ultimately it's your kitchen so if you like the tile, and your design, that's great for you. I live in a neighborhood where almost every house had tiled kitchen counters put in by the developers; as people can afford it or the houses change hands, they are ripping them out and putting in granite or marble or silestone or whatever - because once things leak off your cutting board (meat juice, raw chicken) or you try to roll out something (pizza, pie, biscuits) you are faced with the fact that the grout (even sealed or epoxy) is difficult to clean. So in my opinion, it is not the most convenient of surfaces. Sounds like you already have your fix - tear out current urethane and install epoxy. Sincerely wishing you good luck that it will work for you....See MoreHas anyone tried this product on countertops?
Comments (6)I've been looking at these to try too! After looking at many that are offered and their videos and reviews, I have it down to one of these two. Leggari is more expensive but has more options. Leggari Countertop coating videos CounterTopEpoxy.com I was looking for a quartz look. I'm not much into the busy marbling or granite look options. They have it all though....See MoreTHOR, Son of ODIN
