I like nextdoor for selling. It has been a great experience for me.

My community has its own Facebook market group. We have strict rules as to membership (you must reside in one of the 3 towns and your Facebook friends have to "join" you to the group), and no "OBO". Your price is your price. First "interested" reply gets the item. The seller can set the deadline for picking it up before moving onto the next buyer. It works great.

A benefit is, you know you aren't traveling more than 5 or 6 miles, and you know that whoever comes to your doorstep probably has some connection to you, via school or house of worship or city involvement. So, you'd never cheat a "neighbor".

Bpath, that does sound nice--although of course the downside is the smaller exposure a listing gets when posted to a limited audience.

I have several items listed on both Facebook and Craigslist. The Facebook listings are on the general Marketplace plus one for my county and one for a neighboring county. I get more nuisance emails from the FB listings than I do from Craigslist, although Craigslist makes me more aware of possible scams.

I got an email yesterday via Craigslist that said, "Good morning. I saw your item for sale. Will you be around today?" Except for the "good morning" part, it sounded very much like a scam email to me, and I almost didn't respond to it. But I'm glad I did, because he was a legit buyer who was happy to get something I was very happy to sell. I met up with him in the afternoon, and it was the most pleasant transaction I've had lately. I have an appointment with another Craigslist buyer this week.

I haven’t done much on CL although I did give away an exercise bike and bought at Pottery Barn headboard where the seller agreed to deliver. No problems. Still, there are too many crazies so I am wary of it.

On the other hand,my son loves to bike, both mountain and road, and has gotten great bargains without too much aggravation.

I’ve accidently clicked on FB marketplace and saw some interesting things. Most were too far away.

I ‘ve had my best luck on my local FB selling pages. The buyers/sellers cannot be anonymous.

I sell and buy stuff on FB groups, usually ones that are on my side of town. When I post something to sell I put it on the two groups in my area and on Marketplace. I recently sold a prom dress for $225, and today I put on a bunch of my husbands shirts. My dd likes to buy workout clothes on one of the area groups. I think no matter if it is in your area or on Marketplace, you have to be careful. I always meet people in parking lots, usually Walgreens, during day hours.

on my FB, we have a buy and sell group, plus a buy nothing group. When I joined I had to give them a street and cross street name to prove I lived in the area. I have gotten rid of much stuff that others wanted.

Greenshoekitty, what's a "buy nothing" group? Somehow I doubt it's a group where people are permitted to offer items for sale, but no one is allowed to buy. :-)

Alisande, it is a group where you post things ( or ask if someone has something) you don’t need any more ,. All things are offered free. This winter I was able to give six people flannel sheet sets that I hadn’t used in many years. I have given candles, and many other things people asked for.Just got rid of some garden tools , to someone who is planting a veg. Garden. No money or trades just free. Even food has been given

"When they come to our door" does not sound real safe. Just today there was a blurb on the news, police stations encouraging such transactions to be done at their stations, in their parking lots where there are always cameras and someone watching. Evidently a seller was robbed at gun point in a public parking lot where they thought they would be safer than at their home.

My neighborhood facebook group (closed) posts, here it is! It's on the corner of main and 1st. Come and get it. For free. If I needed to sell it, I guess I'd have to try something like nextdoor, but basically we trade what we need. We borrow things this way too.
