Pental Quartz vs. Silestone? Any pros cons to either brand?
Comments (5)Pentalquartz (formerly Chroma) is Vicostone, made in Vietnam, which may account for the lower price. Vicostone sells to other granite companies as well as Pental. I started with Caesarstone in my remodel last year, but it was damaged on install. My Buttermilk slabs had resin pooling, so I switched to Pentalquartz Botticino because I could view my slabs at their Portland warehouse. The Pental slabs looked fine in the warehouse and at the fabricators. On install, we saw faint circles of all sizes in the countertop, as if it had etched. It took months for the Portland warehouse manager to come out and look at the problem. By then, all gradually disappeared except for a 5 gallon sized circle near the sink. He tried cleaning and buffing, but I can still see it in certain light. He said he'd talk to the owner of Pental about some kind of compensation and get back to me. He never did. That was last spring. I don't know if the marks came in the manufacturing process or from the fabricators. The Pental guy could not think of anything that would cause such marks. He talked about how the Chinese cut corners by curing their quartz at lower temperatures, and it spends less time in the curing ovens, so the resins don't achieve the same hardness and durability. But Vicostone does cure properly, and they also use the Breton equipment to manufacture their quartz. China just steals the technology. In the end, it's beautiful and we're happy with it, despite a faint can mark. Not so happy with the customer service of Pental....See MoreHow much more is silestone quartz v. level 2 granite?
Comments (6)We found that for the difference, just get whichever one really speaks to you. You're going to live with your counters for a long time. We are between Silestone Lagoon and honed black absolute. The difference is a few hundred dollars. You should call Silestone and find the closest distributor to see a full slab. We're going to drive into Chicago to see our Lagoon. It's worth the hour and half so I can start sleeping again....See MoreCambria/Viatera/Silestone Quartz comparable colors?
Comments (0)I am in the process of choosing quartz countertop for my new kitchen. The cabinets will be painted flat panel (Schrock Denton in Coconut) and the walls will be a sage green (muted gray/green color). I like Viatera "silver lake", but am also looking at Cambria and Silestone. I only have a sample tile of the "silver lake" and am trying to judge from online pictures if Siletone "bamboo" is similar. Does anyone know? What about Cambria? Do they have a version of Viatera's "silver lake"? Thanks!...See MoreMatt effect quartz (Silestone/caesarstone)
Comments (34)At my last house I had Caesarstone Raven which is a smoky gray with hints of misty white running through it. It was beautiful and I loved it so much I'm actually thinking about getting it again in my current house. I compared it with a lot of different colors, and the color is just right- not too brown not too cold. However last time I made the mistake of getting it honed and it smudged constantly. I did wash it multiple times a day but it was ridiculously difficult to get smudges out. Everything made it smudge. After trying mfg recommendations, I constantly ended up having to do something the manufacturer said not to do and use other solvents to try to get smudges out. It was really bad when the Sun lit up the area. Now I'm actually thinking about getting Caesarstone Raven without a matte finish in my current home but I'm wondering if I would be better off trying to find a Silestone equivalent color. So far I haven't been able to do that. I like the charcoal soapstone in silestone but it has blue undertones and looks a bit too cold. Any good recommendation for a smoky gray that's not too cold or too warm so it ends up looking brown?...See MoreUser
