Comments (2)Hi, that's a really good 'root over rock' you've done, but would you mind a suggestion or two? I would get the tree out of that pot and into a wider round or oval one that I think would suit the whole concept better - it looks a bit like it's 'stuck' into that pot perilously balancing on a brick :-). And that leads to my next comment - that the tree's getting a bit large for the rock - certainly needs shortening, and then maybe some shaping for definition. You don't want either a lollipop effect, or just even a top heavy one. By cutting back hard on the trunk, to a branch that gently heads sideways (not entirely, but somewhat) and then re-developing smaller, twiggy branches off that one, you'll end up with better proportion, and you might now even consider 'burying' the bottom ~ 20% of the ball as it's trying to do an imitation of a sago palm bulb, but it doesn't work all that well. Just my feeling......See MoreNew Azaleas and Old Rocks
Comments (5)Nell, The stones are to hold the mulch and some moisture. As I have said before, my soil is mostly sand and dries out too fast. That is why I must water every day. I dug down as deep as I could and then built it back up with peat and peat humus so that the azaleas would be above the ground level. I dug in some pine straw and then planted the azaleas. Then I added more pine straw and the rocks. The next day I bought some pine mulch and mulched around the plants and in between the pavers and underneath the Arborvitae on the west side of the pavers. This will help keep the soil moist and cool but allow drainage. The rocks will also help retain the moisture, but allow drainage and keep the pine mulch from washing down onto the pavers. I sure like the way it turned out. I am thrilled to have gotten these beauties for only $7! It must have been a weekend only sale, because the prices are now back up to $35. I really lucked out getting those special azaleas for that price! I'll go look at Paghat's Girard Pink. She always has such lovely stuff to drool over. Thanks for letting me know. ~Annie...See MoreA little garden art, including fossils ...
Comments (7)I love your garden art Roselee! The reclining buddha is really highlighted there! We always collect fossil rocks on our walks too. It is amazing to imagine that the sea was covering the area. So many little gems here and there, mirrors really do bring sparkle to shadowy areas! I love green bauble, did you craft that? I absolutely love the rake heads used as tool hangers! The lime green of the filipino lilies really sets off the crinums too! Thanks for taking the time to share!...See MoreDid you use individual accent tiles?
Comments (21)Just thought I would circle back on this post, now that our kitchen is (FINALLY) finshed! I ended up going with McIntyre tiles in Calif for the field tiles and the quote accent tiles from Mission Guild Studio in their Wheatfield glaze. I am so happy with how it turned out and I highly recommend both of those artisans and tile makers!...See Morelindac92
