Furniture is HUGE jn new living room!! TV over fireplace??
Comments (18)Would you consider at least getting a smaller TV? It's massive for your room. If you're keeping it, then please don't put it over the fireplace. You need another focal point. Instead, find a beautiful square art work for over the fireplace to pull the eye away from the screen. Get drapes for the window, again to balance out the huge dark pieces taking up almost all the visual space: TV, big leather sofas.Beverly's layout seems the best since it opens up some space for your passageways on the right....See MoreMy dated living room curtains need a make-over!
Comments (30)Thank you all for the advice. I have several challenges in my living room. One is it is fairly small, just 20'x18', basically a square shaped room. I don't have the room to pull things away from the walls to make room for floor length drapes. Both walls have the large windows with very little wall space. There is a long handmade country quilted wall hanging that I don't want to clash with any window treatment. The living room is open to both the kitchen and dining room. They are all essentially one room. I can't rearrange the furniture due to the wood stove in one corner and where the TV has to be in that corner. The piano will only fit on that one wall. I do have electric baseboard heaters along the one wall that are used when I go away any time in the cold weather months so having long drapes would be a problem there. Heating with wood makes things get really dirty so I don't want window coverings that are hard or problematic to take down and clean. I am a recent widow and need to be able to take care of things myself. My living room hasn't had a makeover in 30 yrs which is why I desperately need new window treatments. I don't have beautiful hardwood floors like in some of these pictures. I have carpeting. Some day I'd like to replace that but can't right now. I have beautiful views of the pine trees surrounding my home out the windows so don't want the view hidden. I do feel at times now at night, that I'd like a way to close off the windows so people can't see in. I do like a softness around the windows. I'm starting to toy with the idea of a faux Roman shade valance with maybe woven wood blinds underneath which I could then lower for privacy at night. Or just some simple panels but I think I'll have to stay with sill length if I do that due to the electric baseboard heaters and furniture up against walls. Here are some curtains I like and fabrics I would consider for a faux Roman shade valance. Please let me know your thoughts. Comments (7)Your fireplace would be fine with a large piece of art covering the wood planks. Or remove the bricks above the vertical design and place a simple mantle on the fireplace with drywall above. I'd keep your half wall. I don't see rails or glass improving that in any way. Your front door is beautiful. I'd try to find one type of flooring for your entry and carpet so you have better flow. Why not continue the hardwood you have? I'd put your budget into updating your lighting....See MoreIdeas for living room make over ?
Comments (1)How many people use this room? It has a den/dorm/basement vibe right now, what do you want to accomplish? Much larger rug with color. Large art over the sectional. All the books on the book shelf so the end table is clear. Floor lamp needs to be between the end table and sectional so the light is actually useful. minted.com art.com greatbigcanvas.com are sites for art horchow.com rugsusa.com for rugs...See MoreCelery.
