Has Anyone Experienced Such A Thing?

Earlier this week, I was checking on the butternut squash seeds I've started indoors when I spotted something that looked like a little green broom handle with a mop-top.

Turns out the roots had emerged and were acting like seed leaves, seeking light, while the seed leaves were doing what the roots should have been doing, staying under the soil.

I carefully extracted the seedling and placed the roots properly, if gingerly, into the soil.

The plant is now doing just fine; logic would suggest this is atypical.
