EZE Breeze OR SunSpace WeatherMaster?

We need some quick advice on which system to go with on our screen porch in our new construction home. The screen porch is 17'4" x 20. We would like to have the windows go up to 9' 6". We need 2 - 8' cabana doors.

What we have read...

WeatherMaster seems to only go up to 8' high on the windows themselves so any additional height has to come in the form of a transom.

WeatherMaster is constructed of heavier metal and has less moving parts to break.

WeatherMaster screens are interchangeable.

EZE Breeze windows can go up to a full 9' 6" (4 windows) without transoms.

EZE Breeze has lots of moving parts that tend to break and are hard if not impossible to replace. The plastic tabs break off the windows that are used to move window up and down.

Each EZE Breeze window in a section is a different size making them non-interchangeable.

The prices seem to have shot up significantly in the past 2-3 years on these systems so we're really trying to get the best system for the money. Can anyone speak to the quality and preference of these types of porch systems?

I've had EZE Breeze windows in two houses, over 25 years total. We've never had plastic tabs break. On our 3 walls of windows, each wall uses windows the same size. My husband and I replaced the vinyl in one window ourselves before we put our old house on the market (cat scratch) and it wasn't hard. I love my windows, though they are hard to make look clean.

We enclosed our previously screened-in carport, placing two small conventional windows on the SW side, facing our tiny sideyard. Both the SE side (facing our back garden) and NW side have sliding glass doors, the NW doors having glassed-in miniblinds. Both sliding doors have thermal drapes that can be used to cover them completely in weather that is too hot or too cold, and I have both a portable dehumidifier in the SW corner and and a large "end table" automatic quartz heater in the NW corner. I placed three large area carpets over the concrete slab, giving me essentially three different areas in which to arrange things. The slab absorbs both heat and cold, so if I am attentive to the room's needs it is entirely possible to keep it comfortable year round by adjusting the drapes, ventilating, and running the dehumidifier and heater. My sliding glass doors are screened, so on a good day I can open the doors at both ends and have a wonderful breeze through the entire room, and almost have the look and feel of a sun porch *and* a screened in porch, but without the inconveniences. The NE side opens into our tiny dining area, and we have an air conditioner in there. On very hot, humid days, our "sun room" is cooled sufficiently from that and a ceiling fan we added. This is a fairly low cost solution for anyone with a roofed-over carport or garage that they never park in; it's incredible the amount of living space that can be added to a home--it's now the largest room in the house, and the most attractive in terms of view, lighting, and general comfort.

I looked at all the vinyl window options and came across energy wise manufacturing out of Schullber, WI. I could not be happier w this product! I have been wanting a screened in porch for many years, but could not justify the cost if it was not used "most" of the year. I live in Richmond, VA where we have mild winters and it is not uncommon to have sunny 60 degree days in Dec/Jan/Feb. These windows create a "greenhouse effect" and allows me to enjoy my screened in porch most of the year. Alot of people thought this idea was crazy - but I am glad I stuck with it and found a company that makes them and was willing to ship them to me. Besides for retaining heat in the winter, I really enjoy the fact that the room stays clean from dust and pollen most of the time. Some people balked at the idea of taking them in and out, and also storing them. But for me it’s worth the trade off. The shipping cost is high ($300.00) especially in my case bc my window openings were SO LARGE (60 X 66). An added bonus is that the shipping container acts as a heavy duty storage container for the windows when not in use. I store the container under my deck. Eugene is a great guy and extremely responsive to his customers! This a unique product and for people who don’t mind the effort, it is the perfect solution to get more use out of a screened in porch. @Brandy Wine I would give some thought to which direction your room will face. If it is facing in any West direction it may be too warm during the summer. your summers are long & your summer nights do not cool off as much as in the North. Also depends how large this porch will be. mine is 22x22 and I have 6 of the large Scenix windows plus 2 sets of french doors that fully open to 6 ft openings. My windows are not enough ventilation on their own, the french doors save the day! My porch faces East, so no afternoon sun. And even with that, our porch can be very warm, but with our giant ceiling fan & French doors open, it has enough ventilation. I also put in a Mitsubishi unit that heats & cools. That didn't cost a lot to put in & it gives us total climate control in the summer & winter if we need it. We totally live on our porch, its like the rest of the house doesn't exist! So think through what you want out of this space you are about to create & how important this space will be to you. Ours changed everything for us. Hope this helps!!

You will not have room for the swing. I wanted a swing, also. Had to choose between couch or swing. Plus you need empty space for movement. Depending on how you like your flooring, you could go with the smaller rug in just the seating area while letting the floor show in other places. Or go with the larger rug to hide. Although my porch is larger than yours (13 x 20), we have a similar lounging set, and our porch has multiple house windows and support post. We put our dining table on the patio. We went with a larger rug for the seating area and still have a good bit of the porch floor showing. I'd be glad to post photos for you so that you can get some ideas.

There are lots of companies out there through which you can purchase them and have them installed. The companies advertise if they do these windows. We visited a couple of sites where the company we chose had installed them. Good luck!

We had weathermaster SUNSPACE windows and doors installed last year in our cottage screen porch. They have been FABULOUS, allowing us to enjoy the screen porch bug free, and protecting us from the wind and rain we needed. They also kept the snow out in the winter.

However… We have recently had some problems with both the doors (one not staying closed, one difficult to open) as well as some problems with one set of the windows (the four panels would spontaneously fall to bottom leaving the space exposed to the elements with just the screen in place).

The sunspace people have been by to check and service them. Hopefully the problem has been properly fixed. I am concerned though, because even when it was a problem, it was intermittent, (maybe related to temperature?). So I am worried that even if it seems like they fixed it it might not stay fixed. I certainly hope the company will stand by their product if the problem recurs.
