UPDATE: Wow! 10,000 Traveling Daylily posts!! Wow!
Comments (104)Shirley...I am so glad you finally got your box, even if the wine got broken. It just shows how roughly the PO handles our boxes. As you saw, I had marked it "Glass" and "Live Plants". Wonder what happens if you don't mark them to let them know that there are fragile items inside??? I wish you had gotten to see the label though...It was made especially for you. Also, I have spoken to different people in various Post Offices about mailing wine. Each person gave me a different answer. One told me that it was okay to mail wine as long as it was under a certain proof. My homemade wine isn't proofed, even if it was, they wouldn't know what it was because they broke the d--n bottle;0) I'll bring you some when we go to Gatlinburg in the spring. Don't let me forget. Gloria...OUCH!!!That does sound really painful. Hope you heal quickly. Marea....Thank you for the nice complement about the wine. I'll have you a bottle waiting when you come and see me this spring. I can hardly wait to show you over the farm. Maybe when you get settled in your permanent home I can return the visit. Welcome Roxanne. Glad to have a new member. I've been away from the group a lot recently and have missed out on your joining. Now for the sad news...My aunt passed away late yesterday, she was cremated today, and there will be a memorial for her tomorrow in her hometown (London, KY). This is the aunt that I have been helping my cousin by sitting with her a few times a week. Maretta (my aunt) was 66 years old and died of cancer one month after being diagnosed. The blessing is that she is no longer suffering and is in a much better place. Hello to everyone...I have missed you, and hope to be back and more active in our group again soon. Comments (4)I've had a Sonoma Cast Stone farmhouse style sink in my kitchen for 10 years. Expensive and cool looking. Several years ago however, it started to deteriorate around the drain. Then it failed on the bottom surface and looks just awful. Looks dirty when I know it can't be. I've reached out twice to the company for help - as soon as they see pictures they 'go away' as in no response. We also have a Sonoma Cast stone sink in our powder room. It's held up great because it gets hardly any use. My advice: DO NOT get one of these in the kitchen or anywhere else where you'll use it often! It won't hold up!...See MoreIs $10,000 budget unreasonable?
Comments (26)Hi Lainey, I am finishing a kitchen remodel in which we tried to save money by using Green Demolitions cabs. I am just north of Detroit. I got the cabs for $3500, then spent $2000 on a Budget rental truck, a plane ticket, and $500 for an unemployed friend of a friend to fly out to Hartford Connecticut, get my rental truck and drive the kitchen home. My kitchen is 16 x 18 and we got rid of the table and chairs and filled the space with the kitchen's island. My contractor put new oak veneer on the sides and fronts of a few cabs and we are sanding, staining, and polyurethaning the drawer fronts and doors ourselves. So if there is anyone to help your mom out with any refinishing that might be needed, a used kitchen could get her a lot more than buying all new cabinets. You could get this kitchen: with this nifty pantry for maybe $1200. Then somebody has to go get it (don't even think about hiring a moving company unless you know them personally and they give you a great deal). The cabinets may need sanding and staining like mine did, but they are a good combination of usable cabinets: Your mom would not have to use the island. It is just a sink cabinet with a dishwasher on one side and a trash compactor on the other, with a back on it. The sink cabinet could go anywhere you like. She could use a regular range/oven and use the wall oven cabinet like I did, to raise my dishwasher up for my aching back. With the low cost of these cabinets, she could hire someone to install them and make laminate countertops, and still have some $ left if she wants a new sink and faucet. This kitchen does come with the cast iron sink, the faucet, the counters (which you can just tell them to keep if you are not setting up the cabinets exactly like you see them in the pictures), the dishwasher, the stovetop and downdraft vent(which may be yucky since they are used), and wall oven. Comments (15)For the past four weeks I've been working out on the company gym's treadmill 4-5 nights a week doing 3-4 miles at a brisk walk. I also add incline to help build up my hiking endurance. During the workout my heart rate runs between 128 and 136. I'm also eating salads and WW meals, drinking water, lots of water and hike at least once a week. So far I don't feel like I'm making much progress. I had a doctor appointment yesterday and weighed in more than I did before starting my workouts. And please don't tell me muscle weighs more than fat because at this point I should have lost at least a pound regardless of how "buff" (LOL) I am. My blood pressure was a bit high too. I'm so disappointed. I'll keep it going though because I really need to work on my inclines for easier hiking but geez. Jodi-...See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
