Comments (15)I'm not from RI but have relatives living in Tiverton. What kind of dining experience are you looking for? Roberto's in nice...overpriced for the quality, but nice, with a good atmosphere. It's a nice place to linger over dinner, as long as you're not sitting at the table nearest the door in cold weather. You will need a reservation there, most likely. There's a little Italian/pizza place in..I believe...Warren. I'm going to have to ask my mum what its name is (I've only been there once), but it's good if you're looking for the opposite of Roberto's--I recall plastic tablecloths & chairs and some noise; good salads; pasta okay; didn't try the pizza, I'm afraid. If you can make it into Providence and are up for Roberto's-type prices, I would highly recommend Rue de l'Espoir. Really good food! Roberto's has a slightly nicer atmosphere, but I'd say try for Rue de l'Espoir if you really like to eat and it's not too far for you to drive. Make a reservation. I've only been to Blithewold in the spring, but that was wonderful. They have a magnificent daffodil display. Enjoy your trip! Just about every buyer that looked at the house over the last 120 days expected us to cut 10% or more off our already competitive price. My wife is also a realtor and she will tell you first hand that many buyers are losing very good deals on houses in our market because they are reading the news paper and listening to all of these bubble and foreclosure stories. She had one buyer that was relocating miss three deals that were snapped up by investors. All this because they expected a steep discount since the news in S. Florida is all about the market going south and sellers going belly up because they can't afford to wait for a buyer to come along. So regardless of what the National homebuilders want to quote, the media, which includes the National Homebuilders article, does affect the way buyers view the market. The best guide that I have ever read for timing markets is very simple. When you start hearing stories about how much money people with no investment experience are making, that's the time to sell. Likewise, once these same unsophisticated investors are flushed out of the market, that's the time to buy. Lastly, contrary to what most would want you to believe markets usually don't turn around in months. It takes years. Real-estate is a great investment, but anyone that thinks they are going to get in today and make huge profits is probably going to be disappointed. Comments (33)Sorry if I misunderstood. You said " The assessed value is only part of what your tax bill will be " and that suggested a misunderstanding to me. Comparing your property tax bill to your next door neighbor's, in jurisdictions not having the adjustment ceiling California has, value would normally be the ONLY difference contributing to different tax bills. Maybe it's just semantics. The tax number (again ignoring special or per lot assessments) is the product of two numbers, the rate and the value the rate is imposed on. Size of house and lot, its condition, improvements, amenities, recent comparable sales, etc., all affect value but only value affects the tax. The peripheral facts, measurements, etc., are indicia of value in the absence of better information, or sometimes are reasons justifying value. But value is value, it's subjective in any event except in the cases of recent sales transactions for "identical" properties nearby. Comments (15)@ RL - very good points re: cleaning. @groveraxle - goodness, I love your candor. Here's the thing. Those are knock-off Beat pendants and they're served me over the last 5 years but I'm ready for an update. They are also very low wattage so provide very little down lighting. I'm also SUPER fussy about finishes matching, and I'm doing chrome faucets and pulls. I don't like brushed + chrome look lol. I'm picky-picky. We have vaulted 16+ foot ceilings and the space feels large at over 20 feet long (even though the island breaks up the middle), I really feel like we need pendants over the island to break up the space.
