Comments (11)Wow! Thanks everybody! I appreciate the many compliments! Thank you all so much! I'm only too happy to share my little jungle with all of you! Actually, I'm rather proud of it all! I'm pretty certain all of my Supreme Garden bulbs ARE Supreme Garden... I just got 2 large clusters of them from Royal Colors, and they look exactly like the catalog photos... In fact, each cluster of bulbs came in a different order, and both clusters were identical... I had to part out one of the clusters because there was some rot in the center bulb... so, it was separated and planted in 3 different pots... I think maybe my camera doesn't pick up the true color of the blooms, and that's why it might look like another variety... unless... Royal Colors is selling something other than Supreme Garden, and calling it that anyway... I certainly hope it's Supreme Garden! As far the lighting... the whole jungle is bathed in sunlight from the time the sun rises, until it passes over the house... and then grow lights on timers automatically switch on and run... Larry has them set for an eighteen hour cycle, I believe... the lights aren't visible in the pictures, so it appears that they only get dim window light... I try to provide all of my plants with adequate lighting... things have gotten a lot better since I bought my first bulbs! I know my bulbs would be much happier if they could live outdoors, and the size and color would be better, but I'm stuck with indoor growing during the colder months... I move the pots around frequently, depending on who needs the most sunshine at the moment... growing indoors is a constant battle against certain things, but once spring gets here, the bulbs will go out to the garden for some rest and recuperation... by the time they come back indoors, they should all be fat and happy! Thanks again, everyone! I appreciate all the comments and compliments! This is all so much fun!...See MoreDemi's House
Comments (68)Totallyblessed, thank you--I'm glad you and I have so much in common! Shannon did ask me about the slate; I understand she is going with it--good for her! I am so glad you said what you did about the fabrics--because DH doesn't always see why I spend so much on them, LOL! That is one thing I always splurge on and yes, I order them from interior designer's sources. Usually, I will have an "idea" in my head about what type of fabric I want and either go through the books on my own or ask an interior designer to find it for me--and they know exactly what I like so they can go directly to the books when I say I want "a crushed velvet with a bluegreen swirl design and such and such background." And they come up with it! Conversely, sometimes I see a fabric and fall in love with it and then find a place for it, or a pillow, or wait to have something covered it in. Sometimes I find it already on furniture, like the chair you mentioned. Actually I bought that chair on sale at the Bassett Furniture warehouse in Houston, Texas about eight years ago--it was a very good deal, although it is of average quality. I was with a friend looking for furniture and we walked in the back and I loved the size of it and the colors--it's a deep orangey/rose with green. It was supposed to go in my dressing room so I could snuggle up and read. Of course we built the house, wound up downsizing at the last minute so I lost the space in my dressing room. It is in my game room right now, but probably one of our daughers will wind up with it--I'm thinking of making that room more of a library. I have seen that fabric in the last few years; next time I am looking through the books I will try to find it for you--it is a little irridescent. I don't know if you would want my weird sense of decorating, if you call it that--more like a houseful of "stuff we like." But I would love to help!...See MoreTransition from Arts & Crafts to Art Deco?
Comments (106)I went looking for images of those elements. Ribbed glass panels in cabinet doors is easy enough. Here's one in a bathroom vanity: Ribbed glass (or ''seeded'' glass) is also often found in period light fixtures: As for marquetry countertops, if you asked most kitchen cabinet makers for such, I imagine they would gape blankly at the gabbling woman. But there are plenty of companies doing stock and custom hardwood marquetry inlays using CNC laser cutters. Here's the thing - they are doing it in floors. Google ''hardwood floor inlay'' and see. Yes, many of the rosettes are infeasible for a 26'' counter, but look for the ''border'' designs - or create your own. Assemble a 26'' wide section of inlaid ''floor'' on a 3/4'' plywood substrate, encase it in Waterlox, and I do believe you'd have yourself a marquetry countertop. Another option - perhaps cheaper - is stenciling on hardwood, of which this is an example. And so is this What else? Beveled glass is readily available, as is chrome countertop edging, and any furniture or auto upholstery shop can cover a panel of 1/8'' plywood in soft butterscotch leather framed in silver studs (maybe not actual silver, but close enough). I don't know exactly what version of Art Deco you are headed for, or if you even like butterscotch, but the point is, you are not doing yet another white kitchen, you're doing something that isn't being done by the mainstream, so the ordinary kitchen sources are not making this stuff. Sure, there is cool Art Deco hardware around, but what passes for ''Art Deco'' kitchen cabinetry in the online catalogs is . . . disappointing. You are going to have to make it, or at least source it, yourself - and I think if you're comfortable outside the painted lines, you can. You'll find yourself hiring a floor guy to work on a countertop, hunting down the local hot rod upholstery shops, telling your cabinet maker to fit bathroom vanity faces to kitchen cabinet boxes - they'll still look at you like you're crazy, but you'll know you're not. Go for it, girl!...See Morearkansas girl
