Art work over mantle - help please
Comments (18)Too high, too small ; I agree with all of the above. Above the mantle is prime space/location, you shouldn't have to merchandise around the picture to make it look right. I disagree with adding more matting, possibly you should look for a print that can be framed with all of the image showing, this particular print looks like the matting is hiding some of the picture by cutting off parts of the trees, not too effective, imo. The colors do work in your room, the red is great....See MoreLooking for suggestions/Art over my DR sideboard
Comments (13)Thanks, mclarke, for looking up prints. Of the ones above, I'm most drawn to the red boat. I like the trees in the mist one, too. It actually looks like the view from the side windows. But I think I like the boat better because I'd rather not replacate the views, just feature something you'd see in the surroundings. That's why most of the lake landscapes I've found haven't hooked me. The red boat is a nice punch of color. My walls are creamy white, the floors are pumpkin pine. The boat print seems more informal, too. In the "Long Weekend" print, I liked that the people and dogs were stylized rather than realistically portrayed. I don't think I want a photograph. patricia43, I chuckled when I read your post about getting through Christmas with a summer print. A close friend and I have been debating that for years. Since I live in NH, the seasonal changes here are radical. I tend to change out my prints, at least, from summer to winter. My friend loves to have her tulip and garden prints in her LR during winter's darkest days to remind her that summer will come again. To each her own! When I can afford to, I'll probably collect some seasonal "switch-outs" for the new place. mclarke - Sabra Field(s)? is a Vermont artist whose work I love. She does beautiful, simple prints. Most of her available prints aren't large enough for the space I'm looking to fill and, matted and framed, are out of my price-range right now. But the boat print reminded me of them. She has a website, if you're interested in looking. Thanks!...See MoreBathroom Decor Help! Where Do I Place Artwork or Mirror
Comments (3)I would look for art that is large and squarish for just over the tub portion. Then i would find a shelf or two of some kind to go over the toilet. not an ugly cabinet, but something that will fill the space but not compete with the art. Comments (19)Thanks everyone. I agree on the drapes, they came with the house - don’t love them. But the in addition to the two windows on each side of the fire place there there is a very large window on the walls to right and the left. So this will be quite an expense that I was trying to avoid. But definitely an option and would do in a similar way as @BeverlyFLADeziner suggests. I also agree with a chunkier mantel, however the mantel replacement will require additional stone work, so unless I can modify what I have, vs. replace it - that is not an option. I will definitely keep my eyes open for Art, you have sent some great suggestions that I like a lot. I don’t think I will go with a mirror, as I had one up for awhile and hated the reflection.. as some has commented could be an issue....See Morechloebud
