Son watches it, I wonder if they’ll Ever find anything!

It's one of my favorite shows. Nail biting at times, frustrating at times. Every season looks so hopeful in the beginning, only to walk away even more confused and disappointed at the end. I'd love to know how much has been spent on the search since the show began.

I watch it regularly... I really like the Lagina brothers...they seem like really nice, caring people.

I remember reading the readers' digest article when I was a kid too and have always been fascinated with the place. The amount of work that went into burying whatever it is that's buried there is phenomenal. I hope when they finally find the treasure, it doesn't turn out to be a piece of parchment that says, "Ha ha! The jokes on you!"

HAAHH!!! Yes, I watch it and groan and moan and cuss the whole time about what a rip-off it is and "all this money being spent and all they find is a nail and oh, yeah, a lead cross which was probably planted there" - on and on. And then I turn around and watch again the next week. These guys are geniuses. But then when I was paying for the premium channel package on satellite TV and got the American Destination channel, I'd watch the Mountain Monster show every week, laughing all the way, yet invariably during the first few minutes of the show I'd have that little ray of hope "I wonder if they will get the Bigfoot this time?" I can make fun of it, I was born in WV and those guys look a lot like most of my relatives there. LOL!!! Every time DH turned that show on he would holler "hey, get in here, your kinfolk are on TV".

Another avid (or should I say 'rabid') fan here! ! ! Although at times I feel like it is moving much too slow. But I guess you just can't rush things like that.

I really REALLY want them to find something amazing, something that will change parts of history to some extent, so I think they will.

It kind of bothers me at times, when they show aerial views of the island, how badly it's been ravaged. So hopefully when this is over, the island will be able to be 'restored', somehow.

Has anyone here watched the other show that Marty Lagina is backing? I think it's called "The Curse of Confederate Gold", or something like that. Supposedly a ship loaded with gold from the Confederacy sunk in Lake Michigan. I watched one or two episodes of it, but it didn't hold my interest like Oak Island does.

Yes we watch it and the other show too. I think they have made some very interesting progress. Especially in the drained swamp. I have thought all along that area would provide a lot of information. We like the brothers too very nice down to earth fellows.

I too remember reading some article as a kid and being fascinated by the possibilities. I've watched some of the show, but not very many since I don't have cable. I've also followed the updates and synopses online and I'm convinced that the only "treasure" is the fascinating stories, and the income from the ongoing TV show.

I think they've already conclusively determined that there is no treasure to find, and are therefore stretching out the "searching" as long as possible. Most of the synopses for a particular episode adequately capture the total information content of that episode in just a couple of sentences. In one such synopsis I remember, they found something that caused them to surmise that Sir Francis Drake visited the island, for much of the episode they researched Drake's travels, and upon finding no information anywhere that Drake ever visited the island, they concluded that it was proof that Drake secretly visited the island and left that something behind.

Edited to add the exact synopsis regarding Drake:

Season 5 episode 7: A theory is presented that Sir Francis Drake is buried on Oak Island in a vault with gold treasure. It is suggested that the lack of any records documenting Drake travelling to Canada is proof that he must have travelled to Canada. A theory is presented that the scrap leather piece found is from a book binding. A patch of ground is excavated and nothing is found.

Never heard of it!! Is this the first season?

DH watches it. When it’s on, I really don’t pay attention but just enough to know the premise of the show. It’s my belief that they’ll never find the treasure. After all, if they find it the show will be over.

Graywings no there have been several seasons now. I am sure they can be found online. Our dvr is set to record them.

I think it is currently on season 6, but wouldn't swear to it. I also think one of the brothers recently commented something about the past 10 years they've been searching there. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I will know for sure. And I'll bet Google knows. . . . . . .

Is it about that big deep hole they think there is something buried there? I remember seeing that on Ancient Aliens one time. I didn't know they made a series about. So are they excavating it each week?

They are digging various areas of the island where they think treasures or clues to the treasures are. They have found several small items and some very interesting structural elements.

OK, yeah, that is the place they did a story on Ancient Aliens. It seemed to be quite elaborately designed to conceal something.

arkansas girl, there are major problems with digging...they aren't sure where the original dig site was as it's been completely obscured by digs done by many searchers over the years, the original dig site hit a booby trap and the whole pit was flooded which has led to serious issues in trying to excavate anything. Now they are digging in the cove where they think they might find the underground system that piped the water into the booby trap. If they can find it, maybe they can stop the flooding. Also, where they are digging where they think the original hole was, the ground is so unstable that the very heavy equipment they were using started sinking into the ground.

It really seems the island is cursed as every attempt to move forward seems to be hit with so many setbacks.

But underneath it all is the sense that something really valuable must be buried because people went through so much incredible effort to bury it. I mean we're talking 1700s or earlier and a pit that's over 9 stories deep. You wouldn't think people would work so hard unless what they're hiding is extremely valuable...and that's the hope and mystery.

As I have read more and more over the past few days, I have become convinced there is nothing there, or at least no fabulous treasure. There are underground caves throughout that area, and not too far away a natural sinkhole was found that appeared much like the original descriptions passed along from those who purportedly first found the "Money Pit", including finding what appeared to be a "layer of flagstones" and then beneath that finding what appear to be periodic layers of logs or "timbers".

As the efforts to find treasure have grown and grown over the many years, the suggestions as to what treasure might be there have likewise grown to the point where almost literally anything for which the current whereabouts are unknown has been speculated to be "the treasure" that is hidden in some remote hole on the edge of nowhere. (<-- sorry Nova Scotia)

Captain Kidd's treasure, or Blackbeard's treasure, or an entire "bank" of treasures from many different pirates, or British gold captured by Spanish sailors, or Spanish gold captured by British marines in Cuba, or French treasure being hidden from invading British, or Marie Antoinette's lost jewels, or manuscripts indicating that Francis Bacon wrote Shakespeare's plays (<-- which would be of historical interest, but would hardly be a fantastically valuable treasure, especially given that hundreds of years in a wet hole would render any "valuable" manuscripts to rotted sludge) or even the Holy Grail or the Lost Ark of the Covenant.

So as more effort is expended and nothing is found its taken as proof of an ever larger effort to hide an ever more valuable treasure and consequently an ever larger secret cabal behind the massive effort, whereas to me it is becoming ever more obvious that the fact that nothing has yet been found after all of this effort, means that there is nothing to find and likely never was.

So so sad that Dan Blankenship passed away. RIP DAN

Some of the mythology of "Oak Island" states something to the effect of "7 people must die in the search for treasure, before the treasure will be found." Thus far, reportedly, 6 people have died, so although Mr Blankenship's death doesn't seem to be directly related to the hunt for treasure, maybe due to his long association with the hunt for treasure on the island, his death will somehow "count" as the prophesied 7th death.

RIP Dan, I hope all of your questions have finally been answered. You will be missed. They are all a really great group of guys. Nice to watch a show where it's obvious that everyone genuinely likes one another.

That's sad, but he lived a good long life, and I'm sure it did his heart good to see the work continued to solve the oak island mystery when he could no longer do it.

If you really watch all the footage at the beginning of every show, you will see snippets from shows not shown yet. One has one of the brothers standing inside an underground tunnel shaft. Also scenes where they appear to awestruck at the treasure they found. So we wait........

What if it's nothing more than an ancient irrigation system but the wood that was used for pipes just rotted away. Maybe it has nothing to do with buried treasures. I know that even in more modern times, they used wood to make drainage and water pipes, eventually they just rot away though.

I doubt it's irrigation as the wood is being found 100-110 feet below...that's like a 10 story building. No irrigation needs to be that deep, esp on the atlantic coast where rain is plentiful.

There was so much work put into building this thing that it's hard to believe it was done for some trivial purpose...

I've seen a few episode and that was one of first things I thought....they must have A LOT of money to be doing that work.

Annie, I agree, plus the other items that are coming up at that depth...the parchment, human bone, leather, china, etc.

Well Marty Lagina has money...estimated to be worth between $40 and $100 million...his brother is worth only about $2 mil.
