Large front porch - need planter/plant help
Comments (15)Oh, I would love a porch like that! Lucky you. Yes, hanging baskets would be wonderful. If you do flower boxes, I would suggest doing what raven said-keep the plants in pots that you can change out when they start looking bad. You could even have some you trade in and out from a spot with more sun. You could try begonias interspersed with foliage plants like caladium and coleus. I just ordered from Rosy Dawn Gardens-they have some really interesting coleus. Can't comment on their quality yet since my order hasn't arrived, but here is a link-so many colors and patterns-can't wait to get mine! coleus...See MoreFront door lighting for contemporary home
Comments (11)IF your home was designed by an actual licensed architect, and no supports were spec'd, I would proceed as follows. After obtaining your Certificate of Occupancy remove the unneeded supports and go on with your life. This is done all the time...just look at the photos of interior stairs without handrails etc....See MoreRecs for two godo quality urn planters for front door
Comments (40)Until we redo flowerbeds, would it be possible to place them on the grass, right in front of the beds and left/right of path - not ON the beds? Definitely nothing would fit on the actual steps. Initially I thought about placing regular urns (not squatty) on the edge of the platform, which is wider than the steps. But in this case the urns cannot have a larger than 15 max diameter- which led some posters to say that those would look off-scale relative to the house (too small). So that's what got us on the grass, in front of the stairs, left and right. Not on the platform, not on steps and not even on the flower bed now - but on the grass IN FRONT of flower bed. Squatty but wide in diameter. I am trying to decide whether that would look fine because this seems the only place available for a larger diameter. I will definitely try stacking up some smaller pots there. Otherwise, I need to content myself with taller but smaller-diameter urns, up on the edge of the platform - whether on-scale or not....See MoreWhat's a good plant for next to a (covered) front door?
Comments (12)I would paint the planter the same color as the door, move it forward, and plant lush tropicals that will do well in however much sun you get. Check with your local nursery. I would not have anything spiky in a small area guests will be around. https://www.costafarms.com//get-growing/slideshow/use-tropical-shade-plants-in-your-garden I’d move to here:...See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
