I've been wondering about these as well: whether they are "worth it" since they aren't cheap (I do realize that "worth it" can be a very individual concept). My other question has been whether anyone has retrofitted one after the cabinets and countertops were in? I ask because we used to have a 3" filler. After we pushed one length of the "el" in our kitchen back 4", we ended up with a 7" filler strip. (Yes, we should have thought this through more carefully before the countertop was installed!) I've been wondering whether we could knock it out (maybe by taking a sawzall to each edge to cut the nails that hold the thin strip of wood in place) and put one of these in. (Since the floor in that space is the subfloor, with the tile only intruding a small bit), I'm thinking I could anchor it to the floor. A bad idea? Doable?

I have a 9" pullout, also, although it is an in-cabinet pullout, and you do loose a lot of room. It does make the space left much more accessible, though. The inside usable space dimensions would be very helpful. I have looked everywhere and not been able to find them. If anyone has the measurement, PLEASE post it. I am sure it would help a lot of people considering these pullouts. I would want the upper spice pullout only for the small jars and rectangular tins, of which they make very few any more. So most would be the small round jars. I can keep my larger spices in the upper cabinet next to the pullout. The smaller ones tend to get lost though, and hard to find without emptying out the spice cabinet. I designed away my corner lazy susan that I used in my old kitchen that kept them relatively accessible, in favor of a glass front lighted cabinet. I measured my spices and the tins are 1 1/4 inches wide, the McCormick small glass jars are 1 1/2 inches and the McCormick small plastic jars are 1 3/4 inches wide. Small extracts are about 1 inch wide to 1 1/4 inch wide. So 1 3/4 inches are plenty to make it functional for me, since not all my spices would fit in the upper one anyway. I love the idea of the peg board, but with no solution for my spices I am not sure if that would be most useful if I can only have one. On the other hand, I know I would rather not be bending down or kneeling on the floor to find the most frequently used ones. The peg board might let me get rid of the on the counter utensil holder, which would leave a nicer, cleaner and less clutter look. If I went with a lower spice pullout, it would probably just house the less frequently used items. Then I would keep just my favorites in the upper cabinet. Anyway, I need to decide soon. If anyone has the inside dimensions or can show how they were installed in an upper filler with wide moldings over it, it would be immensely helpful. Ordering them and returning them is not an option since there are steep restocking fees as well as shipping to pay. I would only get about 50% back if I had to return one. Sue

Thanks all for the replies. In my previous home I had a corner base with a lazy susan but the cabinet itself wasn't square - there was an extra amount of space on the right half that was separated from the susan by a wall. I kept my cookie sheets and cutting boards in it. I thought it was hard to get into and stuff got pushed to the back of the cabinet and I had to go digging in there with my BBQ tongs to get stuff out. I'm not sure how wide that opening was, maybe it was only 2 - 3 inches or so. dylpup - I liked the vertical storage, I just found it difficult to use. That's why I thought a pullout might work better. I would like to be able to pull out the shelf and pull stuff up and out. That's really what I'm looking for, I guess. The mechanics of the 6 inch rev-a-shelf filler was what looked good to me, using only the bottom shelf with the wire dividers. Not sure about the stability of the whole thing if you took out all the shelves. The model number of the filler I was thinking of trying to modify is RAS-432-BF-6C, I was looking at this website: http://www.thehardwarehut.com/catalog-product.php?p_ref=28061 alku05 - I'll check out the pegboard version. That could probably work too. Thanks for the suggestion venice_2008. If I didn't use a pullout filler then I would need a 6 inch cabinet (I'm getting frameless). That would leave about 4 1/2 inches of opening I think. (Please let me know if I'm wrong on this. Every 1/4 inch is valuable in this situation!) I'm worried that I'd be back to using my BBQ tongs to get stuff out. That seems like such a SMALL space to dig into. Maybe I just need to mockup an opening that big and just practice putting things in and out. It's good to hear that you don't think its an issue. By coincidence, our lower will also be extra deep there - 29 1/2 inches.

I don't think the piano hinge would work. At least I can't picture it. But I do think that a regular hinge could, except I don't know that there would be a way now to get down inside and attach it. Everyone says you have to install the Rev-A-Shelf type things as you're putting the cabinets in since they go between two cabinets. My installer said he'd be mounting it by screwing it from inside the two adjacent cabinets and could do it after the fact. But for hinges, they'd have to be installed in that crevice. Maybe they make some kind of an angled drill and screw driver thing and it could work. That'd be the hold-up. I don't know if the hinge could get attached to the outside of the adjacent cabinet at this point in the game. Otherwise, I think it would work.
