Faron - I remember talking to you about my right rotator cuff surgery after you had yours. I'm a veteran of many surgeries, but recuperation from that one is the most painful thing I've ever experienced. My right (dominant) arm and shoulder are functional now , but not without pain. If anything happens on the left side I'll just try to live with it. I hope you don't need another surgery.

I am having problems with my right shoulder. My first joint problem ever. My damage was caused by one of my dogs! We bought her a big ball with rope attached, which she loved. Obviously, my shoulder did not like throwing that thing across the yard and here I am with a pain that has not gone away a few months later. It seems to get better and then I stretch it reaching for something and ouch!

Probably time to get it looked at ...

Oh, no Faron! I was just thinking about you recently, when I realized it has been two years since my rotator cuff surgery. I hope you don’t need surgery again!

Seagrass, I’m sorry to hear you still have pain. My shoulder is about 99 percent (still weaker than the other) and no pain. I had PT three times a week for five months after the surgery!

This coming late April will be 2 yrs since my Right RC Surgery!! Like most, since I'm right-handed, the Right RC Tendon "went" first. Wow! That's a lot of Rehab!!!

Ouch! I hope a course of PT is all that's needed??!??!! Don't wait too much longer! The longer you wait, the worse it'll be for correcting it.

Faron you are in a big boat which includes my husband and my co-worker. You guys beat up your bodies too much! I am so sorry. All I can say is TRY and take care of yourself and not sacrifice your body to the "I've got this!" tendency. I know it is the bane of the life of the highly competent! Sometimes you have to learn to let it go and live with the "good enough" work of someone less experienced than you. You deserve to be well cared for, even if it is by your own self!!

Faron, I’m sorry you will have to do this again.

If it makes you feel better, my DH just got out of surgery an hour ago for shoulder replacement! Arthritis, no tear or any other soft tissue damage but of course the doc has to go in thru the front and cut to get to the joint. So there will be a long recovery similar to rotator cuff surgery with no weight bearing for a month.

You ARE right of course..... For most guys, "letting go of some of the Reigns" is damn near impossible... :-( I just jumped-right-in all the time, & did heavy stuff. Now.....paying the price I guess........ When people need help with heavy stuff now at the store, I have to bow-out most of the time....Grrr.

No, not the reverse procedure, just the ‘simple’ one, which is good really as it should give him a good chance of full mobility and function. He is feeling pretty good right now since the nerve block is still working. I asked if I could watch the anesthesiologist administer that today and he let me do that. It was pretty cool! Like watching an ultrasound really. He was impressed I wasn’t squeamish about it.

It's weird getting that nerve-block! The arm jerks a couple times involuntarily. Didn't hurt at all obviously, but it's strange having your arm flop!

I DIDN'T like it when the NB wore off.... :-(

Did he use General-Anesteshia? For my TKR, Foot, & Right shoulder work, I'm a BIG fan of the "Concious-Sedation & Nerve-Block" method!!!

Yes, general anesthesia. For his hip replacement he was given the option for conscious sedation but declined. Big baby, lol! It was not mentioned for this, so I presume the doc prefers general. DH was very alert after though. Slept a lot yesterday but when he was awake he was good. He had not had any other pain meds.

Faron, DH is home! And still no pain meds! He had a couple of Tylenol after his PT in the hospital, which was about 4 hours ago now. Only passive movements for now, and he can do those as frequently as he wants. He said he might take an Aleve in a little while. I am impressed. He has a full PT session on Thursday.

I had RC surgery on the 1st, just had the stitches out yesterday. I had some pretty serious tears as well as bone spurs to grind away. My anesthesiologist and I decided that I was not a candidate for the nerve block procedure so I opted out. I also couldn't take the Norco prescribed for pain for more than two doses. I did have general anesthesia.

But honestly, with the help of my recirculating ice machine, I've not been bothered by significant pain at all. I take OTC ibuprofin before my PT sessions but that's one twice a week!

I'm wearing the immobiizing sling religiously other than for exercising, bathing, and PT. What a nuisance.

I am convinced that having that ice machine hooked up to me most of the day (off and on) is why I had so little swelling and pain. It was highly recommended to me, over ice packs, by friends in the Kitchen Table forum.

P.S. Be sure to ask about the risks associated with that nerve block!

Lemme know how he's doing when you can! I'm assuming he's in the "Immobilizing sling" for a more involved procedure like that?? My RC needed repairs, but didn't require full Immobilizing thank God!! I just had the loose sling.

Glad you're doing good!!! YES....that ice-machine is a Godsend!! After my Total-knee in September 2014, I used it a LOT. Felt SO good! We bought a lot of ice that Fall, Lol!!

He really is doing great, Faron. He did take a pain pill before bed last night but mainly because he had a little discomfort plus he hadn’t slept well in the hospital the night before and he wanted (and needed) a good night’s sleep. He got it. Yes to the ice machine. He is wearing the immobilizing sling, but cal release his forearm to do the passive exercises. His bandage is waterproof so he can shower without the whole shebang so that is good. I helped him do that last night. He just has to keep his upper arm close to his body. We could use a sling, but he did ok without. Our shower is huge and has a spray attachment so that helped.

Rhizo, good to hear you are doing well.

Outside, can your DH sleep in the bed? When I had my r. cuff surgery I was told to sleep sitting up for two weeks. I think I ended up doing that for three or four weeks.

I don't remember using ice on mine. The only significant pain I had was right after the nerve block wore off (about 24 hours after surgery). I took one Percoset and had such a bad reaction I made DH get rid of them.

I kept a log of how often I took ibuprofen and the doctor seemed impressed that I didn't need more. :)

Yes, but we now have a split king bed and he can raise his side to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night he sort of rolled over to his left side but not completely. Surgery was on his right shoulder. He said he was fine.

He just told me he thought he would stick to either Aleve or ibuprofen. He sometimes gets an upset tummy from anything else and apparently was a little queasy late this morning while I went to the gym. Not bad but enough to quit the heavy drugs.

Welllllllllllll.....Yes to surgery.

It's not mandatory, but I'm tired of being limited some. That, and the sharp pains in the front & down the Bicep. He'll clear some room on the underside of the Acromium, grind off a little Spur, & repair the torn Supraspinatus tendon. Like my Right-shoulder, the Left Bicep-tendon may have to be cut, & re-anchored into the "Humeral Head".

I wouldn't mind doing it ASAP. Then...I'd be done with most of the 6-wk "Sling-time" b4 DW has her mid-May CT Scan.

BUT.....it's the REAL BUSY time at work thru May & into June!!! All kinds of Power-equipment, BBQ, etc. If I wait til mid-June, it'll be August when I get out of sling. August & Sept will be the "Rehab months" then..... It's an easier time to miss work tho'.

Good grief!!! Operation # SEVEN in 9 years. As I stated....the THIRD by my excellent "sorta-neighbor" Surgeon!

This predicament certainly deserves an.........UFFFDA! ;-)

This occurred to me today.....I hope this doesn't sound like ANY type of whining/complaining?!!?!! I'm very lucky overall. My Brother joked about my "structural-breakdown" in some texts during my foot recovery. It was so damn FUNNY!

I'm starting to feel a strange "kinship" with Steve Austin. I saw those two on a recent Hallmark movie btw!!! DON'T TELL ANYONE I SAID THIS!!!! ;-) I'll never be as hot as that Blonde Cylon on the recent Battlestar-Galactica, but I AM kinda becoming a "Hybrid"!
