Why gardenweb?
Comments (32)I have loved Gardenweb since I started lurking about 4 years ago and frequent many different forums. There is a wealth of knowledge here, and for the most part it is a peaceful and friendly forum environment. There are many many forums out there on the WWW where flaming, profanity, and personal attacks are common. I have enough stress and headaches in my real life - I don't go to the virtual world for more of them. The forum format IS old and clunky though - the Search feature is archaic, it is difficult to post photos, and there is no edit feature for the posts (after they're posted). BUT I like the fact that it is a simple text forum, that way the focus is on the text and what's being written, instead of a zillion little emoticons dancing around, and flashing avatars, and lots of visual clutter that I find very distracting. Although it would be nice if posting photos were simpler (because a picture speaks a thousand words sometimes, esp. in gardening)....See MoreJust for guys - technical support
Comments (23)Well bossjim, the "yes dear" is kinda like agreeing to use MS software precisely as MS suggests you use it.........so being basically an anti-MS person, I have managed to develop alternative methods to using their mind-numbing software, by using a MAC! So....Wife 1.0, now has alternative methods of operation, which, while limited, provide for some degree of flexibility, and use of grey matter. These days though, the functionality of grey matter, has declined, therefore I have misgivings about winning the battle, in the long run. Comments (31)I have a Mac, but assume this would work on a MS system as well. I keep two documents called MISC open at the bottom of my computer. One is a word processing document and the other is a draw program document. (I use the free Libre Office suite.) Whenever I have a long email I first compose it in Word and then copy and paste. It's also handy when I post the same reply in many places on Facebook. The drawing program is handy when I want to copy and paste an image from the web. Amd either is also handy for copying and pasting text from the web, as well. I also can relate to spending considerable time composing an email only to lose it. Not fun!...See MoreWindows Mail sometimes deletes 2 at a time!
Comments (10)... If that doesnt fix it and you feel brave and want to experiment more. There is a messages store that I'm thinking has become corrupt much like the XP mail .DAT files used to. Vista keeps a copy of all the emails individually in folders. I havent experimented but would think and am totally guessing here that if you rename the message store it will be lost to windows eyes and it may build a new message store based on the individual emails stored in the folders. It may screw things up too. Hopefully changing the name back to norm on the message store would put you back to first base again. Mine's not default so I can't give you an exact path but if you look around you can find a message store that is in use by paying attention to its date. Should be current date. My inuse message store is here; "C:\Users\mike\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\WindowsMail.MSMessageStore" Yours should be close to same path,, pay attention to dates as you may find an inactive one too. You possibly may need to set explorers folder view to show all hidden to see it....See MoreElmer J Fudd
