I was just at Chamblees Saturday, and have been 6 times this year and have bought a bunch of roses, more than I need, but I love this nursery and Mark is wonderful. The deal is - a nice lady and her family [I met her] bought the name and alot of stock. They have a fruit orchard or nursery and will incorporate the Chamblee roses, and will be adding alot of newer roses after they get established. The land is being sold separately. Some years ago, before Mark wanted to retire, he would get in all kinds of new roses, and I have several unknowns that were test roses from big hybridizers, and Austins and Bucks he used to sell. His "sale bin" was extraordinary! But, as time marches on, people get older, tired, and changes are made. I am still moaning about Vintage Gardens closing.......and now Chamblees. But......this happens and I am happy this new nursery will carry on, tho not with the wonderful prices Chamblees had. Still.......these people have made a huge investment, they are young, enthusiastic and say they will be bringing in some newer roses to sell [that I & people in this area wont have to pay shipping on.] I am glad there will be a rose nursery in Tyler to go to. When you compare the $21.95 prices the Chamblee roses are going to be - look at places like Edmunds, Regans, Palatine, etc. that people pay these prices and consider it the norm. I and many others got spoiled by the great prices Mark put on his roses. This is why I drag home 20+ every trip I make! My pot ghetto now looks like Chamblees! Mail order is over for Mark, the new owners will take that over. I dont like change, and looked forward to every trip I have made to Chamblees over the years, but the new nursery isnt that far away and when they are set up, I will make the trek there. I took photos........have many good memories of visiting with Mark and Ron Hill, the manager, and when I figure out how to transfer photos from my iPhone, will post one I took of them behind the desk. Mark was kind enough to sell me the lovely wrought iron gate inside the office that I had admired for years - it will be a treasured reminder of my many years of going to Chamblees. There was another rose establishment that was looking at the land, but it was too expensive, which was a disappointment to me as that would have been heaven sent for rose lovers in this area. Anyway, time moves on, there are plenty of rose nurseries to buy from and Chamblees has been a great rose nursery and made many contributions to the industry and rose lovers. I took photos of the greenhouses too, and will try to get some of these posted. I am going to be busy digging holes for a long, long time!!
