When I painted I did what you are describing on most of the drawer fronts. One I took apart for some reason I can't remember. The advantage of leaving them on is space saving. Since the paint isn't really cured, you don't want to be flipping them over to paint the other surface too soon. So having them in the vertical position, all stacked on each other is good. All the doors were hung by coat hangers to dry in the garage. Talk about pointy-corner fear. Since I just gel stained a vanity, I will mention that I did take those off. It made it so easy to just wipe that stain on.

I love the idea of them. What great "found" space for all of the items listed above. I'd say go for it! I'd love to have a space like that for a step stool, Costco size packs of batteries, extension cords and all the extra stuff that is in a junk drawer -left over parts from installation of appliances and all those instruction manuals you get with the appliances to keep there close at hand. I had not seen these before and wonder if you can add them after market? They look great and it is a wonderful idea to keep flat items that you rarely use but still need to keep around. I have some decorative casserole holders from Southern Living and Arthur Court that should be living in a space like that instead of in my pantry taking up valuable real estate. Very cool idea.

@raee I have large dovetail drawers that I'm going to use for the blind corner and revise the cabinets on that wall for a 24" cab that pulls out. It will be similar to my pull out table on the other side of the rangetop. This will lower my cost to $64 without the counter and drawer fronts factored in. @ numbers here are the (frameless) IKEA measurements you asked for. The top drawer at 4.5" still has plenty of space for the knives so I'm shifting that up but it's perfect there fit most everything else like large coffee cups and containers. The new Sektion only has a thin strip of metal vs my 3/4" spacer so you will have even more room. Here is the entire cab with measuremen of where my drawers are. I had to take the picture one handed from a front while leaning back so the tape is a bit swiveled. This is my media cab so the heights may not work for your needs. The nice thing about IKEA is that you can keep adjusting the drawers until you find the magic combo. I've adjusted my pantry drawer height again yesterday after trying out storage stuff. Stuff inside for an idea of storage in a base cab. That's a 56 oz and 252 oz container in a 7.5" height drawer. 7.5" can store a lot. I put two different baskets in for comparison. The blue is not a small basket. I don't usually go much larger than the blue because things will get lost inside if it's bigger.

It works! I saw this thread last week, and decided to plan in some of those hidden drawers into our kitchen plan. DH liked the idea but needed a bit of convincing evidence, so this morning we went to Ikea. We brought some masking tape and a couple of flat magnets and asked one of the kitchen staffers for an ok. We tried your "fix" in one of the showrooms, using the masking tape to secure the magnets. After changing out one of the magnets for a stronger one and after a try or two, YES: we were able to predict which drawer would be visible when opened. It really did feel like magic. The kitchen staff and other customers were impressed too and everybody wanted to give it a try as well. Lots of laughter and oohing and aahing.
