Online Sources for Asian Persimmon Trees
Comments (5)If youre up to it rarepalmseeds.com has about a dozen species of persimmon, from NA and asia. Of course it may take a bit longer to get large tree, but the price is right! I do belive that persimmon also come true from seed, at least species wise, not cultivars of course...See MoreOnline Source for OGRs on Fortuniana?
Comments (10)I too would love some OGR's on fortuniana. I found a source in Tampa that has hybrids on fort. stock (Hardins) which come from a wholesale grower in Bradenton (Orbans). I even scouted out Orbans grow list and called them. They reduced to nothing their OGR's because of limited demand. Everyone wants "Just Joey" or "Hot Cocoa", lol. Let's face it we are a very narrow interest group: OGR lovers with sandy soil. When my roses get big enough be able to donate cuttings I'm using Coolroses for custom grafting/budding. But then which ones shall get the nod? Decisions, decisions. Denise...See Morerare roses at "rose sales online"? Reliable source?
Comments (19)I would be very leery of buying any Delbard roses if I was in zone 5. Even in an English 8, they are iffy roses, suffering horribly in a cold winter and taking forever to recover lost ground. Confession time - I am most definitely not a fan of them and grow only 1 (Nahema....and that is on the compost list) but my long-suffering neighbour persists in her love affair with unsuitable tea-noisettes and miffy HTs (latest failure - Dioressence). Maybe in a warm and sheltered spot? They are probably great roses for the south but I learned some time ago that it is essential to consider the 'place of origin' so roses bred in Lyon and other warm French locations are not going to be happy with the chill and arid fenland winds of East Anglia (a bit like Kansas, I imagine...without the summer heat). I never order from nurseries where the climate is kinder than mine either and am always curious about Californian orders from Canadian rose nurseries - how does that work out? It would surely be impossible to do this in reverse (Texas to Ontario for example)?...See MoreGrafted or cutting grown Michelia champaca source?
Comments (7)I asked the seller for the Thai name of the variety he is selling and he says it is called 'Champi Si Thong' (Gold-color Michelia) and it is distinct from 'Champi Sinuan' in that is darker, while he reffered to 'Sinuan' as powderpuff peach color. Dr. Kukiat also thinks 'Sinuan' is just a variety of M. champaca. Now I wonder if 'Golden' that he sells and the one as seen on TT's website is the same variety that starts off a creamy color and darkens as the flower ages. That characteristic makes me suspect that 'Golden' might be a hybrid between M. x alba, if it even makes viable pollen, and M. champaca. Whatever the case, he is selling some very hard to find Michelias and Annonaceae. I just had to apply for an import permit to buy these plants as California customs are ruthless LOL. TTropicals hasn't had anything like the varieties he is selling in years.... Just to be safe, do not buy the Talauma (aka Magnolia liliifera). For what it's worth, he told me that Magnolia liliifera is one of the strongest scented Magnoliaceae that he sells. But there is a variety of M. liliifera that is on the CITES list, that is Magnolia liliifera var. obvata. Besides, Logee's is selling a 1 foot tall plant for $20....See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida-9a-ish)
