I've not experienced it, and I hope I don't. But I did want to say I hope this passes for you soon!

I have not but do know a girl that had it when she was pregnant. I'm not sure how long it lasted but it did go away before she had the baby. My BIL got it after he hit his head really hard, it lasted for a while, I guess a few months and then went away. Is there anything that you know of that brought this on? I'm assuming you went to the doctor for it?

I haven't had it, but I know it can be a complication of Lyme disease. Any chance you might have had a tick bite? A friend who got it from Lyme recovered from it, but I don't know how long it took.

yes I went to the doctor They don't know much about it I am getting more from you tube and a facebook support group My dad had it twice and my son had it once

Not myself, but my husband has had Bell's Palsy 3 times at ages 7, 17 and about 32. It wasn't diagnosed the first two times but it's visible in his school pictures, he literally looked like a stroke victim. He recalls that the length of the first time was 1-2 years, the second and last time lasted 6-8 months but the symptoms were worse the older he was. The last time he had to manually blink his eye and he drooled. It only affected his right side. Although there was pain, he only took Tylenol or aspirin. I get the impression that it is quite rare in males and apparently difficult to diagnose.

I'm really glad for him that he's not had a recurrence in the past 30 years.

No info for you, but my sympathies on having to deal with this and hope it goes away soon!

I worked with a young guy once who had this. Best I recall it took several months but he was left with a very cute lopsided smile. I hope you recover very soon and I wish they could understand why this happens!

I've had it twice ... Once at around 10 years old and again at 16 or 17. The paralysis only lasted a couple of weeks and I had to tape my eye shut at night when I had it as a teen. No pain and no obvious droop ... Could only really tell when I tried to smile.

I had it 48 years ago at age 25 while I was pregnant with #1 son. One side of face was 'frozen', couldn't smile or spit (made brushing teeth interesting) and eye lid involved also. Don't recall any pain, just aggravation. It went away on its own with no treatments after about 6 months. I was lucky, as a small percent of afflicted folks are permanently affected. Never have had a repeat, thankfully.

That's shocking. I hope you can follow mdln's advice to see a proper doc. And I wouldn't return to this doc for anything in the future, s/he sounds like they're not fit to treat patients.

I had a work colleague with Bell's palsy and it remained very noticeable for close to a year. It also left this guy with an odd turn to his mouth when the major symptoms passed. I remember him saying his doc said his experience was extreme and I'll trust yours will be more mild and transitory. Good luck.

No mine is not mild. I saw a picture of someone who had a level 5. Mine is at least that bad if not worse. Level 6 is the worse. The second doctor I went to was my primary Dr. He told me I have a severe case of it. I will go and see him again in 2 weeks for my yearly checkup and see what he says then. My DB also had it. Age is also a factor of a speedy recovery. I have that against me too.

Bengardening, my mother had it quite a long time ago while I was away at school, therfore, I saw her only on weekends. I think she had a severe case and was initially misdiagnosed. She was always busy and this really gave her a wallop. She had to go for speech therapy but she never recovered completely and always had a speech impediment among other things. I am telling you this, not to frighten you, but to encourage you to get the very best medical care possible.

Over the years I have known of several acquaintances that had it and all recovered completely in a relatively short time. That surprised me, considering how it effected my mother. To me it always seemed like there wasn't much awareness based on how we had to explain mom's condition.

I didn't have it- but a good friend from work had this about 10 years ago. Crazy out of nowhere. I believe as best I can remember, it resolved itself after about 6 weeks. I hope it resolves soon.
