Window seat cushions - odd sizes, what to do??

We had custom-built cabinets made for our new home and when the cabinetry person finished constructing our room-length window seat, the dimensions ended up being very odd. The seat is deep (my request) - 27.5 inches - and it's also long - 128 inches. I'm having a REALLY hard time figuring out what to do for a cushion! These aren't typical measurements, and there aren't a lot of cushions of any type that are that deep. I'd consider options like multiple smaller cushions, or a long cushion with smaller cushions on either side, but I still can't find anything. Obviously I COULD do a custom seat cushion, but a) I don't want to wait for 6-8 weeks (or longer) and b) they would be really pricey for a cushion this large. I've already priced them out. And I try to decorate on a budget. :)

The closest I've found so far is this "daybed" cushion from Urban Outfitters: https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/rohini-velvet-daybed-cushion?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=074

But I'm not sure what to do with the extra 54". Would piling up pillows to fill the empty space work?

Any suggestions appreciated!

This is a job for an upholsterer. I have had several odd sized cushions made. Doing this will give you the chance to choose great fabric, resistant to fading.

Custom. You'll have these far longer than the wait to get them. The biggest design errors are made when one is in a hurry.

I have the seat cushions from a couch that my mom got rid of a few years ago (yes, we've been at this remodel that long...) that I've been saving for a bench seat. We picked up some auto upholstery material at a garage sale to cover them with. It looks kind of like a plush microfiber fabric. When I think of how long the seats in a car last with relatively little care, it seems like this should be a durable solution. I've also made a quick non-sewing cover of a smaller cushion where I simply wrapped the foam like a birthday present and pinned everything together with large safety pins on the underside. The pins don't show from the top or sides. It looks upholstered, but the cover can be removed for cleaning. This might not hold up to high usage, though.

It’s an open loft so there will be light regardless. The little window faces west, no view out that window except the roof. I think I’ll just ignore it to start. To be honest I’m not sure the room will get slept in much. The two beds are antiques inherited from my husband’s grandmother. They are an odd size at 30” wide by 78” long. So only really comfortable for kids. However, I love them and have always wanted a spot to use them. My kids are grown and we are years away from grandchildren I think. It is a nice spot for a nap or to read, I sit up there with my iPad and the little dogs love the little beds lol. Once my daughter settles down and has her own place they are promised to her. In the meantime I’m going to enjoy them.

For my window seat I wrapped the fabric around foam so there was only one seam along the back. Suggest using a zipper or Velcro so you can remove to wash. The bench looks like it could be too narrow to sit on if cushions were added for back support. We have a dog and two cats and I eventually removed the padded seating. I find cushions are enough and since it’s rare anyone sits there, it doesn’t have to be comfy. Normally I have more back cushions (+ one for the cats) and it works well visually and pet wise. Your window seat is long so try adding 3 or 4 cushions on each end and a washable dog bed that can be removed when necessary and see what you think, based on your needs. Love the last picture 😀

What are those windows to illuminate? The 2nd level floor? Do they need to open or can they be fixed? What exactly is wrong with the windows? You could make one if you are on a budget. Have a piece of foam cut to the size you want. Rap it in material that you like. If you can sew at all you could whip stitch the material together underneath. You can also use fabric tape or fabric glue. Or you can just use safety pins underneath and you will be able to remove to wash. If you wanted to go one step further you can tuft it.
