It goes with any style. I think it's more modern than traditional, personally, and that there is a really nice piece!

It’s gorgeous and sounds like it would go lovely with your planned design. I have quartzite and I love it. The depth and beauty of real stone - amazing. Once installed I’ve noticed so much more than initially. I didn’t get this one but I’ve seen it at the slab warehouse. Very pretty!

was just at the tile/stone yard the other day and saw a beautiful slab of Taj.

Some are more golden toned, and some have a lot of gray. this one has a nice balance. Oh, and I also saw it in a pre-fab countertop! Usually they don't do pre-fabs in the more exotic stones so I was surprised to see it.

2x9 countertop. as you can see, it's more expensive than the other pre-fabs. this taj is 1800. other prefabs come in at about 500 or so. But, if you have a small kitchen or an L shape configuration, getting something like this is simple. a fabricator would fit it, and cut your sink/ stove cut-outs.

with your navy island, look at Cielo Blue quartzite

I installed Taj Mahal when I remodeled my kitchen last year. I have a Spanish style house, so contemporary and grays are not things that fit into this house! TM can vary quite a bit and my slabs are very creamy/warm, have a more subtle pattern and don't have "stripes".

The photo that Amy/OP shows has a more contemporary vibe with the "stripes" and would probably have been a bit too bold for my Spanish house.

The TM has been bullet-proof so far. My sample passed all the stain tests and was not porous at all.

Love Taj Mahal. I think it will look great with the combinations you have mentioned.

Amy hard to tell whether your slabs are more cool or warm. Photos and lighting can be really deceiving. My TM slabs always look cooler/gray in photos and they aren't when seen in person.

Did you bring your white/blue cabinet samples to the stone yard? Do not pick something out without seeing all the elements next to each other.

I love Taj Mahal quartzite. Recently helped my Dad remodel his home. Here is his kitchen:

You can see he has wood floors (not actually wood, but looks like it). The finishes and furniture in his house are all on the warm/tan/brown side with some griege and pops of orange and soft blue. I think Taq mahal looks really good with warm colors, but since some slabs can lean a little grayish/creamy griege, it's nice to add a little of that to the decor as well.

Here is his livingroom furniture and rocked fireplace. The main pieces are all warm, except that the sofa is sort of a mushroom color, not excactly brown or gray, in-between. The paint is SW Accessible Beige.

Is quartzite heat resistant (assuming the real one like Taj Mahal, not so-called “soft” quartzite)? My main motivation for looking into this material for my kitchen renovation is for heat resistance. Most positive comments I’ve been reading so far has to do with etching and stain resistance.

Do you still have to protect it from hot pots and pans as you would on engineered quartz? I understand that engineered quartz has a weak point which is the resin in it. But It seems quartzite is also vulnerable to thermal shock.

Is heat resistance the WRONG MOTIVATION for getting quartzite countertop?

I have tile countertops for the last 15+ years. The idea of protecting kitchen countertops from heat is new to me. I was wondering what’s people experience with quartzite.

I recently installed Taj Mahal (and love it) after 23 years with verde butterfly granite (a dark green/black). That granite was never sealed and I placed hot pans on it all the time. Never used protection. Now there may have been thermal damage I couldn't see but the stuff was bullet-proof.

When I started researching for the remodel, I knew I did not want quartz and did not find a granite that sang to me but then discovered Taj. What I have read over and over is every countertop should be protected from prolonged heat though quartz may be less forgiving than stone due to the resins. I think my Taj would be fine with a few minutes of heat on it - maybe longer - but it's a big investment so I am training myself and DH to use trivets and range kleen pads.

So the answer to your question from the stone experts would be nothing is completely heat resistance but my 23 year old granite seemed to be! I went with what I love to see every day this time and luckily I don't have to worry about etching and staining, just too much heat.

Get what you like, but remember that nothing is guaranteed against extreme heat. I would never put a pan directly from the oven onto any counter top. I have a six-burner range top that I use for anything coming out of the oven. It's like a very expensive trivet ;)

I have leathered TajMahal in my kitchen with black cabinets and lighter hd floors. It is sealed, and I have had no problems with etching, staining, or heat issues.

Thank you for your input. It has been easy and carefree with my old, tile countertop. It used to be that I put hot pans on either the range top, or the countertop, whichever has room to be a landing place at the moment.

But I realized now that whether I go with engineered quartz or quartzite, I have to be more careful than I used to, with the understanding that engineered countertop is probably more vulnerable than natural stone.
