Chasing the Rose: an adventure..Venetian Countryside
Comments (17)Oh, I see what you meant. Though modern DNA research has demonstrated a lack of China influence in the Portland pedigree --Chinas, apparently, were THOUGHT to be part of the Portland heredity. (I haven't spent a lot of time with Portlands, as on the whole they are not my best roses.) I suspect this author -- no horticulturist -- was TOLD that China influence was there, and so, believed it. BESIDE THAT, the early Portlands very likely were eventually crossed with Chinas. They crossed EVERYTHING with Chinas, in the early days. And why not? So SOME roses now classed as Portlands very likely do have a China in the Woodpile -- so to speak. JERI...See MoreSpring/Summer Conifer Adventures
Comments (1)How come you didn't take me along? I've always wanted to see the Milford Sound area, including the mountains. What a trip! I've been to the mountains in Costa Rica a few years ago. Looks a lot like Guatemalan mountains. Nice conifer enable job on the guide. Way to go! Mike...See MoreUPS - 2 missed deliveries from Amazon
Comments (16)Amazon knows the value of repeat customers. They know that if they claim it's not their problem, people will be less inclined to buy again from them. They don't want customers to have to deal with the post office because it leaves a negative impression about the whole transaction in their mind and that affects business. They have the mentality that it is their responsibility to get the item to the customer in perfect condition, no matter what it takes. I'm having a similar problem with some items I bought from another company that never showed up. The seller is ignoring me, the post office says it was delivered and i'm out $166. I only wish I had ordered through Amazon because I know I'd have my replacement already. But I know for a fact I will NEVER order from this company again because of their attitude towards the whole thing. While Amazon is not obligated to reship it, it's in their best interest. I know I have personally purchased thousands of dollars of items from Amazon, including Prime membership, because they are such a pleasure to work with. I made a mistake once in not canceling a recurring subscription that I meant to, and when I called to see my options, they not only refunded my money but let me keep the item that was sent to me. Even though it was my fault, they still bent over backwards to make me happy and it was a profitable decision for them because I have had many transactions since with absolutely no problems. And THAT is the difference between good customer service and "sorry, but it's not my problem" mentalities....See MoreAmazon tracking our reading?
Comments (6)Rosefolly, as you say we should be thankful that RP would prove of little value to the 'snooping community'. Both my S-in-Law and son work in the cyber security field and make us very aware of the dangers involved. It is a hugely growing industry and we ALL should be aware of the power of this new tech world, sometimes for good but too often for bad. Not just minor issues such as what page we are on while reading an 'e' book but the photos we might be storing in some 'cloud', those endless emails and tweet. Who would have thought just a few years ago of the possibility of governing a country by tweet/twitter . . . or choosing a life-partner from a dodgy photo and resume found 'on line'. And as for stuff such as paying by 'plastic', taking phone calls from crooks breaking into our bank accounts; even contactless payments. That is a really scary one. An elderly woman was interviewed on the BBC and she said how much she loved being able to pay for something just by wafting her purse (containing her bankcard) in the direction of an item she wished to purchase. It all makes Facebook look very innocent, although even there dangers can lurk for the unwary. Our son advises us to keep away from all the above....See MoreIris S (SC, Zone 7b)
