Looking for a good paint color for my kitchen
Comments (5)There is usually so little wall space left in a kitchen after the cabinets and backsplash take up space that you can go with a relatively strong color without the same in your face feel that you can get in another room. With your counters, I immediately thought of Behr Antique Red or Falling Leaves. If you want to stay in the tan, I'd be sure it's something darker, with some warm undertones that work with the counters like Smoky Topaz....See MoreMustard stained my Marmoleum
Comments (44)Back to Marmoleum--I'm not seeing any consensus on whether Click or Sheet are the safer choices if you're going to have a pattern. I don't understand the Dual Tile at all, since this seems to require an almost infinite number of seams, no? We have both sheet Marmoleum and Dual Tile. The sheet only comes in one width - 79". If you need something wider, you can either butt the sheets together or use a welding rod. Even though there is a pattern to the Marmoleum, if you butt the sheets, you will probably see the seam. If you use a welding rod, you will definitely see the seam. The rods are not available in all colors/patterns. And you need an installer that is really qualified to make good seams using the welding rods. Our hall bathrooms are about 6ft wide, so we had the sheet goods installed there since no seam was needed. The laundry room and master bathroom would have required seams if we used the sheet goods. I didn't think I would like the look of just one seam in the room, so we went with the Dual Tile in those rooms. You can tell the floor was done with tiles, but the look does not bother me. I prefer the look of seams all over to just one seam. (Think VTC flooring in a department or grocery store.) And, if we had gone with the sheet goods, we would have had a lot of waste due to the size of the rooms and the width of the sheet. If you go with the Marmoleum Click, it gets treated the same as any other floating floor. That means you have to have your expansion gaps and, if you have an island, you have to decide how comfortable you are with putting the island cabinets on a floating floor. If you are not comfortable doing that, you will have to figure out how to hid the necessary expansion gaps around all sides of the island. Also, you will have some type of transition piece, t-molding or reducer, where you transition from another type of floor to the Marmoleum Click. Our sheet and tile Marmoleum are butted up against our hardwood floors with a tiny bit of caulking, and they are flush. We have only been living with our Marmoleum for 3 months, but we really like it....See MoreAm I crazy to paint my kitchen cabinets white?
Comments (27)Nlpie, I'm a little late to this party but have my 2 cents to add. Also, want to echo others comments that you have a gorgeous house and cabinets. First, a good friend of mine had her cabinets painted by a top notch professional crew. They did a first class job, and the finish held up for years. I think that with some changes you can have a wonderful kitchen either staying with natural cabinets or going creamy off-white. I'm mainly struck by your your lack of artificial lighting. The pot lights aren't even on in the kitchen ceiling. If there are no under cabinet, or above cabinet lights, please add both. Rather than just changing the lighting above the island, what about adding two skylights if this is a single story house? There are both layers of artificial light and skylights in my kitchen. It all makes a huge difference. Along the same line, I would add 3 floating shelves on either side of the large wall clock. Have led lighting built into each self to shine down, with lighting to shine up from the top shelf. Then add fine art decorative glass vases on the shelves. Rather than the clock, replace with a large painting which will have fine art lighting. Both the counter and the back splash go well with the wood cabinets. However, the counter and tile do not look good together imho, too busy. I would go with the cream crackle tile bluebell has shown, whether the cabinets are painted or not. It's always fun coming up with ideas for others to spend $$$. I'm really looking forward to seeing you kitchen when it's completed....See MoreWhat color can I paint my kitchen?
Comments (38)When choosing the wall color, as others have mentioned, don't rely on the little chips. You need to buy sample pints. I like to paint sample colors onto poster board so I can easily move it around the room. I'm lucky, my local BM dealer has free pint Fridays where you can get one sample pint for free....See Moreapple_pie_order
