Beveled edge or regular edge subway tile
Comments (4)It's certainly harder to wipe down, with all the angles to hit. That can get old pretty quickly. I would be concerned with such an unusually inexpensive tile, and one with what would seem more complicated to manufacture than a flat one. It's a big labor and mess investment. I guess on a back splash you don't really have to worry about chipping. Not sure what other problems you might run into. Maybe unevenness or warpage, small size variances, that makes installing more difficult? I've heard tile men speak of that with what they call cheap tile from the big boxes or certain manufacturers. I remember it with flooring installs. Be careful and inspect or have your "very experienced and highly recommended" (lol) tile man approve first....See MoreSubway Tile-A step up from Daltile,a step down fr Subway Ceramics
Comments (28)We have considered these lines after ruling out Subway Ceramics due to cost - will make a decision soon! The thicknesses really range here - as well as the "whites". 1) Walker Zanger's Soho collection - also comes in a bevel. http://www.walkerzanger.com/catalog/series.php?mat=Ceramic&coll=Soho Made in Spain. 2) Richards & Sterling - $6.40/SF but their quarter rounds were really pricey ($6.10 per piece)- www.richardsandsterling.com 3) Tile Shop's Imperial Bianco Gloss (mentioned in earlier posts) - $5.99/SF (free shipping over $100) www.tileshop.com/product/productdetail.aspx?familyID=2041&recordID=5039511 - Made in China. 4) Westminster - if you are in the SF Bay Area, Import Tile Co in Berkeley has some back stock - no bull nose. $5.95/SF. The company is out of business but they still have stock. www.importtile.com Made in California. 5) Sonoma Tilemakers - Star collection - $12/SF www.sonomatilemakers.com/LineList.aspx?prod-line-id=8&line-list-id=32&IsLineList=True Made in Sonoma, CA. 6) Pratt and Larson - Simple Solutions collection - $10.50/SF www.prattandlarson.com Made in Portland, OR....See MoreEdge for beveled subway tile
Comments (7)Pick a tile that offers a bullnose finished edge or a tile that offers matching trim pieces (pencil liners, quarter round, etc). A good tile shop will carry many tile lines with trim/edge options. Sometime they won't have samples of all the options available, but they can easily look them up online and order samples....See MoreGrout spacing for wavy edged subway tile. Shower Walls. 3 x 12
Comments (12)I cannot address the install question but we have a similar tile in our shower, and we really like it. 3+ years of shopping tile and this is the only one hubs liked. I was apprehensive for the reasons mentioned above but it has not been a problem. It hasn't been difficult to keep clean and only one of us actually squeegees. No one in our house can be bothered to wipe with a towel, lol. Our mastiff gets bathed in it once a week (he has terrible allergies). The shower gets cleaned afterwards w/ a soft sponge and mild dish soap. It only takes a few minutes. No mildew, etc. I agree that you will not like a darker grout. We matched to the tile and it just disappears. You won't lose any of the handmade effect of the tile by matching the grout. Up close our grout varies in thickness due to the nature of the tile edge. Good luck with your project!...See MoreSkippack Tile & Stone
