Perennials vs Revolution performance fabric for couch upholstery?

Hi we are about to order a custom sofa and will provide our own fabric , I love a Perennials one ['Ritzy' in the White Sands color] but it prices out at 3 times more than Revolution. Does anyone have experience with either and have any insights as to why Perennials can command such a premium price? Thanks

Perrennials ia a 100 % solution dyed acrylic.fabric . It seems Revolution is polypropylene. Two different things.

All solution dyed fabrics .........indoor/outdoor usually, bleach capabilities etc. are more costly. The cost is made up by performance and easy care. It's a fast growing category, as textures mime that of indoor only fabrics. Matters not whether from Thibault, Kravet, Schumacher.......wherever.. There are plenty to select from, but all with the feel and look of indoor textures will be more $$$.

In any case, get the fabric you will love for a long time, on a quality sofa. Which mean a support system of eight way hand tied construction, spring down cushioning etc.

Don't make the mistake of the high priced spread, on a frame that will not compare in quality with the fabric that tops it.

Thanks for the question and response! I am looking to recover my 1930s Loiuis XVI sofa and need to make it dogproof.

So solution dyed acrylic is the best against stains? Are there differences in wear (rubs?) as well?

The Ethan Allen Spencer collection is 20% off right now. I think their fabrics are much nicer (even quick ship choices). I prefer the taller frame for back cushions, 6" wide track arm (not too big or small), mortise and tenon joinery construction, cushion choices, back cushion has a 3-channel jacket to keep fibers from shifting and that the bottom foam cushions are wrapped with 3 layers. I worried the very thick cushions of the Gather would breakdown and be hard to replace because of their unusual dimensions.

Top Grain Leather will outlast any fabric at a ratio of 4 years to 1. If you had a piece that only went 5 years, it was almost certainly bonded of bicast leather, and neither are top grain, they are made of leather by-products and more plastic poly sheeting than anything else. Real top grain, with regular cleaning and conditioning will go 30 + years. Performance fabrics DO NOT last longer (common misconception). They are just soap and water cleanable, think baked-in Scotchgard. The Double Rub Rating or Wyzenbeek test rating determines longevity of the material. Almost every fabric sold has a rating. You have to spend money to get good covers on well made upholstery. You won't find it at Costco or Bob's Discount Furniture. Here's a very well made (in USA) Sectional from Century Furniture in a Top Grain Leather on a factory closeout, probably a cancelled order. This Cornerstone series normally sells for $ 11k, this one is 30% off while it last. If you enter your query into a search engine, you'll find many web articles comparing your choices. I agree with your wife about no leather, with children and pets. Look for very heavy duty ratings (double rubs ratings), as many fabrics no longer wear as well as did those of years ago. If you have a great deal of natural light entering these areas, consider fade factors. Also important are the frame construction/ seating composition, if you are seeking longevity. Some people have been very happy with microfiber, although I cannot comment on its comfort/longevity.

We bought the C&B Gather sofa plus ottomon in leather last year.. It is the standard depth sofa and we were not able to sit in that poarticular sofa prior to ordining it. We ran into the typical delays due to supply chain issues (7 months). When it was delivered, the delivery guys dropped the sofa in the street and damaged the leather. C&B ordered a replacement (another three months). Both of us hate this sofa! It is very uncomforatable. I am 5'11" and it is too deep to comfortably site upright. The back cushions are not fastened to the sofa in any way so they are constantly slidding down. Even when pushed back, the do not provide good back support. I cannot sit in this sofa more than an hour or so before I get a backache. I wanted a sofa/ottomon combination rather than buying a sectional for the verstility so it really limited my selection of sofas. This was a big mistake. On tiop of that, dealing with C&B sales, customer support and their finance company was a real nightmare that I will never go through again.

IMO the feel of the fabric is important so polypropylene would not be my choice for that situation.

Thank you. This is all so confusing. I think I have spent a dozen hours trying to figure out fabric that works with large dirty dogs.

No polypropylene. An oil product that attracts and holds grunge, no matter it may be easy to clean. Double Rubs will appear on the back of any fabric sample, or can be sought online..

The best prevention for any fabric is a pound of "cure" . A nice big washable throw tossed on for the dogs : ) Or a Slipcover. Or the floor .
