Please critique my process. I'm trying to learn.
Comments (7)If you are happy with your laundry results then you are doing everything right! Like @mamapinky, I sort by color and by use. F.ex. my bath towels are done in their own load as they get fabric softener and nothing else does. My bed sheets are done in one load and get a special conditioning detergent. You mention mostly cotton-poly blends which launder very well. It's amazing the whole family is so consistent. Like Larsi, I seem to have a lot of poly/synthetic blends with exercise and other clothes. For those I use a special Perwoll sports wash. Those loads include anything synthetic and anything that is predominately elastic. Also fleece. Re the lint balls. I found that doing a load of sweaters on my Woolens cycle cleared those away. For that I have a delicate/wool wash....See MoreHi. I’m trying to finish my remodeled kitchen with a back splash. Help
Comments (13)OK, I don't like the tile I posted and wish I'd been more precise. You're not going to go wrong with white subway, but if you wanted permission to walk a little bit on the wilder side, I think your kitchen could pull it off. What I was trying to suggest was a shape idea, like this perhaps. I disagree about using a traditionally laid herringbone accent, especially with a thick border. I would think it was too stodgy if this were my little kitchen, (except maybe the sideways pattern in eam's first two examples.) If you want an accent and use subway, you could also consider a stack or a chevron pattern. Here they use that pattern for the whole backsplash. Or do the BS in matte tile and the accent tile in a gloss finish. Or lean a large, funky handmade ceramic plate behind your range and support a starving artist. Your kitchen is darling. You didn't ask but I'd paint the stools. I'm just full of good ideas for your time and money, aren't I?...See MoreI love my cats, I love my cats, I'm going to strangle my cats
Comments (35)I feel for you bpath. They can be such little stinks. Some of by cats never scratched a thing, but into adorable Siamese tore into everything. I tried catnip on scratch posts, catnip on cardboard -- you name it. I see a couple of solutions. Along the artsy lines, you could take some strands of yarn and attach them to a sort of header to hold them together and then I fix that to the areas that are already gobstoppers (I spoke the word gouged up, but out came gob stoppers – whatever they are). Then the cats can just enjoy the rest of their days playing with already cut sections of yarn and he could be a conversation piece. Yes, another conversation piece. Or you can take something like plaster of Paris or wax and form a sort of shell over that area - like a cast, but in color. You can paint it or add different colors of wax or clay. I just saw one of these amaryllis bulbs in a clay-like "pot" molded over the bulb. It looked great. I bet something like that could actually look kind of cool along the edge of your couch -- like a molded pottery patch. Then there is another solution....See MoreI'm trying to figure out my style
Comments (10)I've had a hard time trying to define my style as well - when we started the planning process for our house - all I knew was that I wanted it to architecturally be as craftsman-style as my budget would allow. That drove some big decisions like cabinetry style and interior doors - trying to keep all the big stuff going back to the craftsman style. In terms of the little stuff like light fixtures, drawer pulls, color schemes (dark vs light and warm vs cool) it took me a long time to figure out my style doesn't fit into one bucket. (So we call it transitional!) My best suggestion is to take your time. Start with photos, walking through decorated model homes, walking through furniture and décor stores. Take photos of everything you like. Then look at them. A lot. If you're like me, something that you LOVED initially and snapped a photo of, 3 months later you're over it. I found that to be a good way to sift through the trends to find what I REALLY love. if I had started purchasing items for our to-be-finished home two years ago, I'd have an HGTV modern farmhouse... because I saw it SO much I thought I loved it. Turns out, I don't really like the whole farmhouse, rustic style. It just took me time to marinate on different ideas. Good luck! (Not sure if this ramble is helpful at all, I tried.)...See MoreLori711
