I just have to tell you about this one.
Comments (7)It ain't always etiquette, either. Minimum wage isn't a law for no good reason......but it woefully falls short of providing protection for waitpeople (especially) and often agricultural workers. Uncles Sammy expects restaurant waiters to get tips. So much so, that he will automatically expect them to get it and hand out a substantial tax liability to them. Then he makes them jump through loops to keep track of it, including the employer keeping records. Come on, go to a fancy restaurant and the person you depend on to feed you is making a little over two dollars an hour?????????? Legally!!!!!!! Nobody should be dependent on a stranger's charity for money they have already earned. That's archaic. I know, I know, the restaurant owners say the prices go up if they pay a decent wage. Duh. When I add twenty to thirty percent on my bills for a tip, I have already figured out that my food is more expensive. The sad part is, that not every community or area of a community is home to people who can/do pay humane tips. And not every restaurant is possibility to some people who do this for a living. So, they work their bottoms off and get shafted, both by the customer and the tax department. I'd like us be like England, where a tip is just that.........over and above the expected, and only if you really want to give one.......and let the employer pay their help a legal wage. You cannot staple twenty percent of your piece of fudge to your 1040....See MoreTell me your thoughts on: When a Parent KNOWS they have Alzheimer
Comments (26)With the "privacy laws" lots has changed! And, lets not forget the ungrateful idiots that have wiped out their parents savings with POA's. That is what has caused so many changes. I am getting through all this and am very lucky my dad can still sign. Most of the money is in his name so I can get it out to pay mom's nursing home bills, but it has been a challenge! I now have it all worked out so should not have too many more hassles. Our investment guy told me today that I am not the only one complaining about the mountain of paperwork that needs to be done to take care of parents! LOL! Some thing our attorney adviced me to do also was to change the primary benificiary on my dad's IRA's. That way if, heaven forbid, some thing happens to him the remainder of the money will not go to the nursing home for my mom's care. Makes sense and that way I will have a few pennies to take care of my brother and his special wants. Oh, that is some thing else, we also have it set up in the will that when my parents are gone my brothers share will go in to a trust for him, therefore keeping it out of the hands of the nursing home....See Moreplease tell me if I'm wrong about this one....Kind of Long!
Comments (2)I wouldn't like that either. Who knows what happened all those months ago. "Get over it" seems wrong to say. How about "Come to terms with it" or "Make the best of it" or "put it in perspective." It cannot be changed now, anyway. Maybe they can at least refund what you paid for the yearbook, as a gesture of regret for the mistake. If this is the worst thing that happened to your son's senior year, you are a lucky family. You have the nice pictures from the photographer, those are the ones you'll treasure for yourself, as a mother, more than the yearbook, anyway. I mean, those will be in the frame on the mantle or wherever every day for years. The yearbook picture will be looked a lot for now, but eventually almost never. We have so many pictures of our children/ourselves growing up, the value of the yearbook is the memories of people and times that it brings back later for the student. That won't change despite this error....See MoreTell Me About Home Goods: Worth It?
Comments (70)Since this thread last appeared, I bought two really comfortable linen chairs for my LR (an updated wing back shape) - one at our HomeGoods store and one at a Marshall's about 25 miles away. Also found some towels I really like -- bought three sets after searching for months and finding only the same not-right colors nothing but solids or solids with embroidery. I was bored with all those and was relieved to find a couple of patterns and a fun color. That's on top of my 3 wool rugs, chunky crystal lamps and a lot of my All-Clad and bakeware. I've been told our store gets deliveries 6 days a week. If you see something you like, you'd better put in in your cart while you think about it. With both my stainless and the chairs, I got what I could and called around to find another, risking a return if I didn't find them -- but I did....See More- 5 years ago
