Comments (35)I miss my Little Treasure and I REALLY miss Sparkler. Sparkler was just so adorable. I notice that no one offers it for sale any more, so I know it wasn't me--it must have been a dud for lots of folks. This year, after a single leaf came up last year, High Society finally called it quits I guess and gave up the ghost. No trace of it. And, I only got 1 season of Dinky Donna and my 2nd Silver Threads & Golden Needles. Hard to think that an unglazed terracotta long skinny rectangular planter had insufficient drainage holes on the bottom. They didn't seem small to me. I am consoled in my new-from-last-year Faithful Heart is really beautiful this year, as is its companion from the shipment last year, Dinner Mint. I spent about 3 hours today and 3 hours yesterday potting up hostas and heuchies to make them portable for the move out of NYC I hope to make. I think I am keeping Opulent Grow Pots in business, ordered so many of them. I hope the "landscape workers" do not spray weedkiller right adjacent to my garden this year, as most everybody is looking so beautiful. I wrote a very nasty email to the co-op manager about their stupidity, trampling stuff, losing stuff, killing stuff and he forwarded it to the landscape company....See MoreHosta Container Grown 2018
Comments (26)steve..so sorry the deer came by..it's happened to me but not since they had a "deer hunt" at the big park (3900 acres) down the street a few years ago..scientists said the park couldn't support the population..the deer were coming to neighborhoods close to the park (like mine)..there were protesters but the hunt took place..my husband is not a hunter..I think it's sad but so are starving deer..it did cut the population..I haven't seen deer in my yard for years..that bed is loaded..it's going to be so lush.. great ideas everyone!...See MoreHosta Companions 2018
Comments (52)I love all of the pictures. Lots of inspiration. My favorite combination with hostas is with my baptisia. I tucked the hosta (this one is a no id, I inherited him when we bought this house) in close, and the baptisia sort of creates a canopy over the hosta. The only catch is that around midsummer, I have to tie up/stake my baptisia so that it doesn't collapse on the hosta....See MoreHosta Yellow 2018 ...
Comments (35)Sherry..I hear what you're saying..steve mentioned this too..when they emerge my Fire Islands (everyone else's too) are quite yellow but they do turn lime green..I consider Fire Island my only "yellow"..of these pics these are the ones that look the most yellow to me..Saija's Tickle Me Pink and Chiquita..steve's Night Shift..on steve's multi colored Appletini the yellow stands out next to the green..sunnywood's Designer Genes..mbug's Dancing Queen and Marrakech..beth's Cracker Crumbs and Dave's Cracker Crumbs sport..several variegated ones have bright yellow bits..fortunately I love the lime green that replaces the yellow too :-)...See More- 5 years ago
