Sharp Microwave Drawer

We are contemplating getting the 24 IN. 1.2 CU. FT. 950W SHARP EASY OPEN STAINLESS STEEL MICROWAVE DRAWER OVEN (KB6524PS). We are remodeling the kitchen and will be placing the microwave under the counter. We don't use a microwave a lot other than for warming up leftovers. This seems to be the cheaper option with a handle to pull the drawer open but I have read some bad reviews about electrical issues. Welcome any options/comments/suggestions. Thanks!

I just ordered that same one from overstock. This is the older model but I wanted it because of the handle...good place to hang a kitchen towel out of sight. Mine is not installed yet, it arrived very quickly. When I compared the reviews of this and the newer model, I didn't see why I would want to spend another $200-$300 and still possibly have problems. Keeping my fingers crossed! I was actually worried that the older model will sell out so I got mine before I actually need it (months out still).

They're fine. Just be sure to follow the cabinet specs to build it in. Do at least the 27" cabinet, not a 24".

Yes, same here. Sharp was AMAZING and came out and fixed it. If you want to try yourself, you can just adjust the position of the switches on the sides after you pop off the panels. I almost figured it out, but watched the Sharp tech get it done in 4 minutes!

The deflector is used when doing a flush installation. From the drawing it appears that the deflector is installed correctly. The problem might be with the depth of your overhang. I have a 3/4" overhang with my inset cabinets. This is covered on page 3 of the Installation Instructions. If the countertop extends out 1", the control panel will be fully exposed because that is a bit less than the thickness of the oven door (1-9/64" as shown by Item H in figures 2 and 6). If the countertop extends out further, the oven would have to be lowered. Given that the location of the oven is already inconvenient, it would seem to me to be best to limit the overhang to 1" to prevent having to push the oven even closer to the floor.

I've had the Sharp micro drawer flip panel in two different homes. One home we had the 24" (installed 2016) and the next we had the 30" (installed 2018). We've always loved them and will have one in our next home. However, with the 30", about 2 months into it, I had noticed it was making funny sounds. So I closely monitored the next couple of uses. During one use of about 2 mins, we had arcing. Sparks were flying everywhere, and I shut it down immediately. We hadn't noticed it before because we'd start the micro and just walk away. I can't imagine what would have happened had my kids been home using it without us there. I thought it was just a one-off issue, so I called Sharp and they replaced immediately without any questions. I thought that was odd. I'm a products liability lawyer, and I typically expect many questions when raising an issue like this, but they just said "New one is on its way ASAP." We took delivery of the replacement, had it installed, and no issues at all three years later. So yes, we 100% had the arcing issue with our 30" model in 2018. But the 30" replacement has had zero issues in the past three years. And we absolutely love it.

We have it and it works fine. Overall we like it. After install though I wish I had paid more for the one without the handle, and put it in a 27” cabinet. That way it would be flush, and I think it would look better. Plus, ours is right beside our fridge (biggest design mistake we made) and the fridge door bumps the microwave handle. This wouldn’t have been an issue with the one without the handle, and would have been less an issue if the cabinet was big enough for a flush mount. Goes in the category of “things you learn from your remodel”.

I wound up ordering the one with the flip out display, because when I saw them at an appliance store I realized I'm too lazy to squat down to see the numbers. They make one that only requires a wave to open it ... but my dogs would figure that out too quickly

The Sharp one we have has a tilted display so you can see it standing up.
