Comments (26)Lola Bojackie, cherimoya tastes like vanilla custard and is very sweet. I make ice cream with it by adding only cream, and then I freeze it. Frozen, it tastes like vanilla ice cream. It is native to highlands of Peru and Ecuador but grows well in Southern California, but only if three to 20 miles from the ocean. It requires a very mild climate and will not grow well if temperatures are over 80°, and it can be damaged by frost. - 7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoThis was a challenge. (I think we move our woodpile more often than we light a fire. My mom lived with us for the first 6 years in this house and she was afraid of fires even though we have an insert stove, so we never got in the habit of having a fire.)
Here is a lit pumpkin display at LLBean when they still used real candles.

7 years agoClearing and burning brush reduces wildfire fuel and creates defensible space. As we do this during the winter months, it keeps us warm too!
7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI had to go back 10 years and a previous house to find a photo of one of my dogs and the fireplace. This is Oscar, my last Rotty getting ready to hog the warm spot in front. My current dog is a Labrador and she's always hot - never goes near the fireplace but loves walking outside when it's cold.
7 years agoThis is blooming now. It is 75 degrees right now. Cold front coming in tonight with a low of 34 and high tomorrow only to be 41.
7 years agoNo fire needed! It was 77 degrees today. 2 days ago we broke the record from 1899. Bees are out.
