I have been starting my own seedlings for over 30 years and have tried many , many products but over the last 10 years or so I have found that my seedlings do much better with FAFARD seed starting mix . I don't have the damping off and I don't lose a lot of plants , sometimes I will add some extra perlite though .I start well over 2400 plants a year and can't afford to lose a lot of them . If you live in the Denver Metro area , O'tooles Garden Centers sell this product . I believe the bales are close to 4 cf . It can be over 30 bucks a bale but believe me It is well worth It . The Pro Mix was ok but I like the Fafard more . You should never start seedlings with a lot of fertilizers in the mix . A good fertilizer I use after the seedlings are up about 2-3 weeks is 'Age old grow' formula, diluted . I hope this helps some of you make a choice . Satin Impervo comes in oil or water based. Where I live in Ohio however, oil is no longer carried in gallons and no paint store can tell you how long the quarts will even be on the shelves. VOC laws are taking it away. Your painter that uses water based alkyd is ahead of the curve. I have used 2 SW water based alkyds. Pro classic and Pro Mar 200. They're both fantastic. Much lower VOC. They feel great, look great, and are tough products. Lots of painters just use a water based acrylic on the trim anymore which is fine. Oil will definitely yellow over time. Some oils will yellow a lot. It is still good stuff but it is not by any means above a water based alkyd. You will get a great finish with anything as long as the painter is good. I would let him use what he wants and feels comfortable with using. Especially if they have had good results with it.

I live in Georgia. There is no way she can go after them. It's not possible. They don't have any money and live from job to job and are feeding their families and if you took money from them or got a judgment they could end up in prison if not able to pay and unable to provide for their family. It would not be satisfying. In the end it really just can't be done by us who feel sorry for them and understand these economic times. They usually work for less than a big company. They are not bad people just unfortunate people. There have been times when I have had to adjust my thinking to it being more or less a "donation" not that I can afford it but I can certainly afford it more than they can and have had in the past a better life. When you know the people and have used them before and had no problems with them it's not easy to haul them into court. I am happy that OP is not going that route even though she has been terribly wronged and certainly justified. Sometimes we get our reward in other ways. It's part of life and I am so very sorry this happened and hope that it will come out with some of the remedies presented. If not, I so feel your pain having had similar things happen to me on several occasions. It's no fun being the brunt of carelessness but sometimes the protracted route of going after people just make our stress level even worse and will end up the same anyway with you resolving it yourself. Here's to hoping it will all work out and that the paint will come out or be able to be covered up. I am sick about this for you.

Just as we are taught in classes. Since the 75-90 mins processing time required for all the greens is the longest processing times available for anything (except tuna), even meats, then there simply is no way it would not also be sufficient for cabbage given the detailed instructions given by NCHFP for canning it. Why that particular individual chose to single out cabbage at this time I can't say. But I sure wouldn't put much stock in it because they have not been doing any research on anything for over 2 years now so can't have learned anything new about it. And in all their prior discussions of cabbage processing it has been incorporated under the greens guidelines with no problems (same for collards). The real issue is quality. Canned, processed cabbage is an undesirable mush in their opinion which is why they have always preferred freezing it. So I see that blog discussion more along the lines of past instances where recipes previously approved, have been withdrawn from the later editions of books merely because of lack of interest in them and because of such a viable alternative option. In this case freezing. If NCHFP truly believes that pressure canning cabbage (or collards) is hazardous then they can easily post such a notice on the official website as they have with other changes recently. Dave
