Which paint line to use, quality vs price?
Comments (26)I have yet to meet a room that didnt need a decent amount of sanding/patching. Even if it's all small areas, seems like there are always a lot. There are many people that skip the "sand" step of "spackel, sand, paint" and it drives me batty! If you can't be trusted to sand, why would I trust that any other prep you did is adequate! I'd much rather prime myself and do two coats to (hopefully) ensure I get good end results than take my chances and have to end up fixing it again after I thought I was done. Not sure what I'd do if I was repainting a room I've already painted. Knowing it was already patched and primed I might be tempted to just paint, but I'd probably still prime to make sure I got good adhesion. Plus I've started branching out to actual colors lately instead of the tinted white palate. Btw, pic of most of the first coat! I'm not doing the painting this go around, it was in the contractor bid....See MoreAdvice needed for exterior paint repair
Comments (4)Sorry, I should have been more specific. The area I have to paint is not wood, it is concrete. But thanks SO much for responding. Michael, you are right, I bet there is a bit of mildew now that I look at it. THANKS for that suggestion. What primer do you suggest for spot priming the area?...See MoreNeed help/advice on exterior paint, windows and garage doors
Comments (0)Front of house - from the street Back of house - this shows all three windows going on ... original gray on left new black french door 3 year old white picture windows Front door - this is on the side of the house and can't be seen from the street I'm a first time home owner in Denver, CO. My house was hit by a hailstorm and I'm having to make big decisions quickly. I really don't want to screw up - a lot of these decision will have to last 10+ years and each decision might influence the others. I'm very excited not to have a pink house much longer! I'm leaning towards a creamy white with black accents and wood-looking garage doors? Here's what's going on: - the roof has already been replaced and I went with a dark charcoal shingle. From the street you can't really see my roof - New Milgard French Doors were installed in the back. The exterior is black and somewhat modern - There are two big picture windows that are newish - they are white. The 2nd photo shows both - I just bought two black barn lights to over the garage doors - https://www.lampsplus.com/products/warehouse-10-inch-high-black-gooseneck-outdoor-wall-light__9c417.html Problems: - the front of the house is all garage, so the garage doors are very important. Right now they are basic white. - there's no front porch and you can't see the front door to paint it a fun color. - there's not much architectural interest to the house. Will white be too bland? - the windows in the front don't have enough space to put shutters on Decisions I need to make: - exterior paint color - garage doors. It will probably be a couple years before I can afford new ones, but I want to paint my house with new ones in mind. - windows - black or white? I love my new black French doors and I was thinking of getting black windows, but they're much more expensive. Much more. I appreciate any and all help and feedback! Comments (6)Looks like the original windows were arched and since the new ones aren't it has created a disconnect between the window and the lintel (trim over the window). A suggestion would be to pick your main body color and then paint the lintels a complementary color, maybe even from the same color strip, that is a couple of shades darker. Leave the windows white, along with the trim at the top, except use the same color used on the lintels to highlight part of the cornice trim (maybe the corbels or the dentil moulding). Long term I would remove the wood deck/porch and replace with something more appropriate (pavers, stamped concrete, etc.). Also opening up/replacing the the transom windows over the front door and changing the front door to one that is an appropriate style would help to complete the look.
