Devoniensis ..comes as climber or a bush..creamy white sometimes has the tiniest blush of light pink

For a bush rose you might consider Spice, a found rose, which I loved in my garden. For me it didn't get too large, and it had a special charm of its own. It ranges from pink to white, and for me it was almost always white, but Christopher's (AquaEyes) who gardens back east had one that looked more pink. Kronprinzessin Viktoria, which you mention above, is a white sport of SdlM that I also had in the garden and for me it didn't get very large. Coquette des Blanches is a gorgeous rose (which I saw in someone else's garden) which I just ordered from the ARE, but I'm not sure about the size. It may even work as a short climber for you, and has a very old-rose appearance, with large, many-petaled flowers.

Another vote for Devoniensis—it has a wonderful fragrance, a bit different from other teas. Sombrueil is also wonderfully fragrant. :-)

OH, and for a bush rose, I'd recommend 'Mlle. de Sombreuil.' The real one . . .

Jesse Hildreth is wonderful! Devoniensis is a slow grower, but beautiful. Both are healthy here. I think I love Jesse more.

The climber Devoniensis hasnt been slow at all. I dont have the bush yet but I am going to get one. I heard the bush was slower.

I have Jessie Hildreth. I love the flowers but it is really slow. Here it needs to probably stay in a pot a few years. The first one I had in the ground and it did poorly then something ate it. If I can get it large enough in a pot for a few years, it might have a fighting chance when it goes in the ground.

I have Sombreuil Cl and I love it. It seems to be a vigorous grower. The first year it just kind sat there then it took off the next spring. I moved it to a sunnier spot last spring. I think its happier in more sun. It has beautiful flowers.

I have heard climbing Devoniensis is a lot more vigorous than the shrub. My shrub sulked last summer after wind tore off it's first basal. I can't really blame him. It was a beauty, too, and sadly tore off before the blooms opened. I hope he tries again this summer.

I had two Jesse's die for me and this third one is fabulous.

That's an outstandingly beautiful arch, Jeri. I wish I could see you pruning it to get it to behave so well, what with blooms almost down to the ground. A rose friend nearby had a great Sombreuil . Mine is about done in. I think cold got it.

Ducher is a great China...healthy and repeats so well. Mine has endured a lot of cold.

Two white(ish) tea roses I would LOVE to have are Angel's Camp Tea and Westside Road Cream tea. Both may get a bit larger than I was planning, but I'm willing to take the risk. They are both not available anywhere right now, so I will have to wait on those.

Erasmus...good to hear of your success with Ducher. It seems to be a rose people love, but it doesn't always do well...for various reason. I think I will give it a try. And I like the idea of a Hybrid Musk in that bed, on the east side kind of behind the large tree.

Also, is anyone familiar with climbing Mme Jules Bouche? It's a hybrid tea climber, but from 1911 (my house was built in 1919, so I love roses from around that time).

Rosylady… mentioning the date 1919 rang a bell for me, so I looked into that, and found that the white hybrid musk 'Prosperity' was introduced that year over here.. one of Pemberton's... but interestingly it has quite a bit of Tea in it, from Perle des Jardins/Mme Falcot and Safrano..

If you haven't already got it... perhaps it's another to consider..... by all accounts it seems a quick and vigorous grower...

FWIW, "Westside Road Cream Tea" and "Jesse Hildreth" are very very similar, and MAY be the same rose. I find Jesse to be among the loveliest of Tea Roses -- and not just because it's "our" foundling.

Marlorena....I was out looking at my pot ghetto today and realized I have a small Prosperity I bought a year ago! And yes, It was introduced the same year as my house was built.

K S ....many people have raved about Pax. That's one of the Hybrid Musks I don't have...I will read more about it.

Jeri....I would love to grow Jessie Hildreth! I was thinking it was too big for my space, but if takes a while to get going it may do well. Plus we're not as hot here, so it would no doubt be smaller.

Just now reading this and I immediately thought of prosperity. I have a couple other hybrid mus that are very pretty such as bubble bath Penelope Felicia and Sally Holmes. They all have their individual charm oh, but I especially love Felicia and prosperity. My Prosperity is very vigorous thus far and it's pot.

There are also a couple of polyanthas that might suit such Yvonne Rabier White MMeMeiMeilMeillland and my favorite the tooth fairy. The latter iis a Charming single bush.

For the bush, I would recommend 'Madame Joseph Schwartz' (tea, 1880), which is a white sport of 'Duchesse de Brabant', and shares all of that rose's lovely qualities. In a garden (mine) where roses tend to get 2 times larger at least than they are "supposed to", MJS has stayed a reasonable size (about 4 ft tall by 4 ft wide) since it was planted in the 1970s. Fine in partial sun (high dappled shade only in the summertime, from tall street trees).

If you're looking for a shorter white tea, how about Faith Whittlesey? It has done well for me and I think it has done well on the West Coast, too. It stays clean for me all summer, no spray. I do think it will get bigger than 30" if given the chance.

Another gorgeous tea rose is Alexander Hill Gray which is supposedly yellow but for me it was a creamy white, splendid rose.

Is Westside Road Cream Tea a slow grower?

Madame Joseph Schwartz , Prosperity, Sally Holmes, & Alexander Hill Gray are on my want list.

The Westside Road Cream Tea above grew quite quickly, but this is an old picture, at a time when roses had not been grown in my soil before. The one I have now is growing much more slowly, in soil where roses have previously grown. I always thought rose replant disease was only a problem in Europe, but I am definitely experiencing it, probably because I have grown so many roses that I took out after a year or two and then quickly replanted with other roses in the same spot. I have done so many foolish things in my garden and am now paying the price.

Ingrid...what is the apricot rose being Westside Road in that pic?

Now I'm researching Alexander Hill Gray and Joseph Schwartz...I'm going to have to enlarge this rose bed! I was out there yesterday trying to figure out how to make it bigger :)

vaporvac...those creamy tones in Prosperity are gorgeous!

I can highly recommend Mme. Joseph Schwartz. My Alexander Hill Gray developed mildew, but I think that's because it was sandwiched in between two other roses and did not have enough air circulation. The apricot rose is Rosette Delizy having a rather atypical coloring in that picture. It usually has a red rim around the edges of the blooms, but it is a variable rose.
