I predict a thread titled "What have you lost" might be quite long.

Sacramento Cemetery, predicting best bloom time?
Comments (4)Hi - Don't have much to add to Janelle's comments. April is usually the best month for us - by early May, things can be quite past their prime. In a usual year, the banksiae and Ramona start blooming in mid-Mar, with some of the teas and chinas joining in soon after, and peaking by the beginning of April. We often have the HPs at their peak for open garden, and some of the early climbers. However, we had one year in which only the earliest roses were blooming in mid-April's Open Garden, and another year in which things were mostly bloomed out. There's no way to tell what this year will bring. I think the roses should fare pretty well through these storms, so long as no tree limbs land on them. We've gotten the climbers pruned and tied to their structures, and the cemetery soil is deep and sandy, so the extra rain shouldn't hurt a thing. I'll be gone from mid-Mar to early April. I'll post how things are looking before I leave. Janelle's right - we'd love to meet you in the cemetery whenever you come, and if I'm not in town, others will step in. The greatest joy is sharing it with others who love roses. Right now, the cemetery is closed on Wed and Thurs and city holidays, because of budget problems. We're hopeful we'll be back to being open seven days a week when we go back on Daylight savings time, but we don't know. Anita...See MoreI Quit !!
Comments (15)Plainwell candy-Don't give up. I almost did as I spent too many years and dollars doing what you did- Always bought from the best local nursey and also I kept trying to get a clematis to grow on my mailbox with no success. One day my DH came home with a little box from BJs with 3 little clems inside for $6.00. I just laughed at him expecting failure. He planted them and they have now thrived for years. Since then every year I buy two or three little clems and I put them different places in my gardens and I cross my fingers. I now have over 30 clems and some of them stop traffic. BTW, I gave up on the mailbox thing and have since discovered- My clems were burning there right near the cemented post. Now if I could only get that stand of White foxgloves that lives in my mind's eye....See MoreI'm not quite done...Easter
Comments (49)I AM FREEZING!! What happened? Our winter is over and all of a sudden this cold snap came through and it went down to 37 degrees last night. I live in Florida so we are never prepared for the cold - don't even own a coat. Even though it was chilly yesterday, we hid the eggs for the kids (more than once) and they had a great time. Of course we hide plastic ones - no one wants to eat boiled eggs here - and we had our egg hunt on Saturday because of all the commitments everyone has. Glad we did since it got nasty last night. Sorry to hear about your flowers, yachter. We are having a continuous concrete edging put around the house Monday so I won't plant flowers until after that. Judith, your table is always gorgeous. You have a good eye for color - matched and coordinated. I can't add anything that the girls haven't already said. But what is in the bottom right corner? It looks like silver leaves? b...See MoreI Hate Title 24 in CA
Comments (44)Solar, I really do appreciate the research you did for me. We were permitted prior to 2008 (actually in 2006 I believe) which should help me with the issue. In addition, I did find (after some research) another little piece of that code that seems to say that the whole issue is exempt from the 18" rule IF I have outlets on each side which are less than 48" from each other. I'm going to go over and measure while I'm doing plaster today. I could easily move those outlets to be compliant with the 48" rule. I actually do want to put an outlet on the "shelf" as we are now labeling it heh heh I want to use (I don't remember the name of it) one of those below counter plugs that is used in labratorys (because of water being close) that pops up to give you access to the fixture. This would be in the farthest reach of the corner, used for our Aerogarden which we'll keep in that window. I can't mount anything on the wall because it's a very very small area, basically with just the structural beams intersecting for the building in it, and those can't be cut into for power issues. Either way, I think you solved a really stupid problem that's been bothering me so I'm glad I complained. I'm going to wander through the site and see if anything else is bothering me LOL what are you doing tonight? heh heh heh You Rock!!!!...See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
