Best countertops to keep off-white (cream) cabinets?
Renovating kitchen to get rid of yellow walls/flooring and the dark granite countertops. Hoping to have darker (near slate) colored floors, lighter countertops, and to keep our current cabinets. The more gray/white stones (calacatta quartzite for example) make the cabinets seem almost yellow. Pictures of current kitchen attached, as well as potential color scheme matches with Taj Mahal quartzite and sea pearl quartzite. Not interested in having two different countertops currently, though could be convinced otherwise. Thoughts?
This is a large kitchen and I don't want to screw this up...

This is the Sea Pearl Quartzite below with the darker gray floor tile we will probably use if we go with this combination (photoshopped in).

Comments (3)Go to SW and get the card with all the whites on it-there are several dozen. Take it home and hold various tones up to your marble and granite in various lights (day and night) and if one choice is not obvious, pick the two or three you like best. Then go back to SW and get $5 sample jars of the ones you like best and paint a piece of poster board or scrap plywood with the chosen colors (so you get a large sample) and place the larger samples in your room. Again inspect and compare at various times of day and night. I think the right choice will become obvious. If you're still not sure, ask a friend you know has a good eye for decorating to help you. Better to be safe than sorry and spending $10-$15 on sample jars and really being sure is better than spending $30+ on a full container which is non-returnable and find it's not really the right shade. Why haven't I realized that it's the same as me saying that as long as I have close reds, that's close enough (something I have long claimed--have matched maroon and other reds willy nilly). After being in this house with small kids for eight years, the cabinets are showing wear and there is quite a bit of water damage on many of them and some are broken (didn’t show you that photo!). So...that was where my head was at with going ahead and painting the cabinets. They are already priming today so this is a done deal! In my area, painting cabs is still a big thing (we might steer behind the times a little) and a big thing people look for in resale (we could be moving in a couple years). Honestly, it might not be trendy but I still love my granite! It hides stuff so well and never looks dirty. And I never even notice my backsplash and I just don’t care that much about it. It’s hard for me to warrant changing something just for cosmetic reasons (counter and backsplash) versus need (cabs). We got an amazing deal on the painting so I feel good about it. I’m going full steam with Antique White. After looking at it forever and being in complete decision making paralysis, that’s what I’m going with! I’m going with brass/gold knobs to add a little bit of funky and I have lots of Anthropologie-esque and plants to add character. I have a very open floor plan with my living room right there in all it’s colorful glory, so I’m thinking the lighter will look nice. I’ll be happy to post a pic when I’m done. See what you think ofSilestone Pulsar. It might be too white, but appears to be creamy but also has some grey and maybe even some brown veining. It might pull together the various colours you've got going including your new floor tile choice.
Silestone Lusso might be another option, for the same reasons.
You'll need to take your doors and samples with you and see them, hopefully full sized slabs so you can get a good sense of colour variations etc.
From Caesarstone.....maybe Moorland Fog. I see some veining that looks grey to me but it has a nice creamy, leaning taupey background. I think it would look very nice.
Have you looked at Soapstone? Or Virginia Mist granite, which is a very popular choice which many think mimics soapstone. It looks fabulous in just about any kitchen I've ever seen it in.
Here is a picture of Virginia Mist Honed on some cream cabinets, or well, they look cream in the picture.
